DAREN News, are articles and information about the Digital Amateur Radio
"Emergency" Network of WV, which operates on 145.69 MHz.  Anyone having any
information about DAREN, or Amateur Radio in general, and would like to share
it with others, may send it to WA8LLM @ PKBGWV on 145.69 MHz, or to my E-Mail:
wa8llm@yahoo.com.  A State Wide DAREN NET is operated every Saturday from 7:00
pm to 10:00 pm, and lately, before and after those hours.  The DAREN Net
Announcement, showing the MAIN NCS, ALTERNATE NCS, NODEs accessible to both,
and the previous week's check-ins, are posted by Thursday on most of the Main
county DAREN PBBS'.  The DAREN News can also be found on the www.wc8ec.com and
www.wc8ec.org websites.

I've been busy putting away all the equipment that we used for the Parkersburg Homecoming and the Parkersburg Half Marathon.  I also need to get caught up with the grass that has been ignored for the past two weeks.  I still have a lot of things to get done.  At least I don't have to do much with the Pasta Dinner that Wood County Emergency Communications will be holding this coming Wednesday, August 30th.  My daughter Cathy Wotring, KC8DJJ, and my wife Dot, KC8HAI, will be taking care of that.  All I'll need to do is help set up the dining area and clean up after it's all over.

Nothing much to report.  I hope to get everything around the house completed, then I can start getting some more Packet equipment ready to get some of the DAREN stations back up and in good working order.

The storm in Texas isn't much of a problem to us yet, but I'm sure we will be seeing some of the effects.  Our biggest thing we will see is the price of gasoline that will be going up in price again.  Since I live out in the boon docks, I keep plenty of gasoline ready for my main generator connected to the house.  One of these days I might convert it to run on natural gas and I won't have to worry about keeping so much gasoline on hand.  Over the years I have collected several of those little 800/900 Watt Harbor Freight generators which have 2 Cycle Engines.  I have found that most of the devices like Chain Saws, Weed Waters, and the 2 Cycle Generators start and run the best on what I call real gasoline.  The real, or pure gasoline that's available around here is 90 Octane and doesn't have Ethanol mixed in it.  I try to keep plenty of it, and the 2 Cycle Mix also on hand.

That's about all that's happening around here for awhile.  The next big event will be the Volcano Days Festival.  That will happen on September 22nd, 23rd, and 24th.  Wood County Emergency Communications will be operating the BINGO games at the event.  The Parkersburg Amateur Radio Klub (PARK) will be operating a Special Event Station at the event.  They are still working on how long they will be operating the station, how many stations they will have on the air, and what bands they will be operating on.  They are talking about operating 20, 40, and 75 Meters.  They have talked about being on the air from 9:00 am to 5:00 pm on Saturday.  All I can suggest is to tune around on those bands, day, and times.  They said that if it works out, they may do it again next year, for a longer period.  Also don't forget the Parkersburg/Wood County Hamfest on October 14th, at the 4-H Camp Grounds on Butcher Bend Road, in Mineral Wells.

The State Wide DAREN Net was really down this week.  There were only 27 check- ins.
