DAREN News, are articles and information about the Digital Amateur Radio "Emergency" Network of WV, which operates on 145.69 MHz.  Anyone having any information about DAREN, or Amateur Radio in general, and would like to share it with others, may send it to WA8LLM @ PKBGWV on 145.69 MHz, or to my E-Mail: wa8llm@yahoo.com.  A State Wide DAREN NET is operated every Saturday from 7:00 pm to 10:00 pm, and lately, before and after those hours.  The DAREN Net Announcement, showing the MAIN NCS, ALTERNATE NCS, NODEs accessible to both, and the previous week's check-ins, are posted by Thursday on most of the Main county DAREN PBBS'.  The DAREN News can also be found on the www.wc8ec.com and www.wc8ec.org websites.

There's not much new this week.  I haven't heard from any one.  I'm getting things ready for the Parkersburg Homecoming, and Half Marathon Race.  The Homecoming will be August 18th and 19th, and the Half Marathon will be August 19th.  The Amateurs in the area will be providing the Safety Communications for the race.  They will also be operating the Race Clocks at the Mile Markers.  I still need to finish filling the Mile Marker vacancies, and getting the Race Clocks checked out, and repair the ones that has some minor problems.  This coming Tuesday, August 1st, will be the Wood County Emergency Communications meeting which will also be their annual picnic.  I try not to get too involved in the picnic except to eat.

Don't forget the West Virginia ARRL State Convention which will also be held on August 19th at Jackson Mills.  Also be sure to put the Parkersburg/Wood County Hamfest on your calendar.  It will be held on October 14th.  The location will be the same as it has been, the 4-H Camp Grounds on Butcher Bend Road in Mineral Wells, Exit 170 off of Interstate I-77.

If you have any activities going on in your area, let me know about them.

The State Wide DAREN Net was really down this week.  There were only 24 check- ins.  I don't know what happened unless everyone was busy or we lost a bunch of NODEs.  I'll know about the NODEs after bit when I start posting the News and Net Announcements around the state.  If it keeps dropping like this, it won't be worth running the net.  My daughter Cathy Wotring, KC8DJJ, who has been participating in the net since April 27, 1996, has completed 1100 check-ins. Brad Carabine, KC8TYU, who has been participating in the net since October 19, 2002, has completed 700 check-ins.  And, Kenneth Gilcrest, AB8KT, who has been participating in the net since November 14, 2015, has completed 50 check-ins. All of these operators will be receiving their certificates.  There was one new operator who checked into the net this week and that was Paul Brandt, W8PAB, from Wintersville, Ohio.  I want to welcome Paul to use the DAREN system as often as possible, and hope he participates in the State Wide DAREN Net as often as he can.
