DAREN News, are articles and information about the Digital Amateur Radio "Emergency" Network of WV, which operates on 145.69 MHz.  Anyone having any information about DAREN, or Amateur Radio in general, and would like to share it with others, may send it to WA8LLM @ PKBGWV on 145.69 MHz, or to my E-Mail: wa8llm@yahoo.com.  A State Wide DAREN NET is operated every Saturday from 7:00 pm to 10:00 pm, and lately, before and after those hours.  The DAREN Net Announcement, showing the MAIN NCS, ALTERNATE NCS, NODEs accessible to both, and the previous week's check-ins, are posted by Thursday on most of the Main county DAREN PBBS'.  The DAREN News can also be found on the www.wc8ec.com and www.wc8ec.org websites.

Last week while I was posting the DAREN News and State Wide DAREN Net Announcement, I found there is trouble again with the Ritchie County NODE/PBBS of RITCWV/HRVLWV.  When you connect to the NODE RITCWV all you get is connected and nothing else.  The same problem happened a few months ago, but it corrected itself to a point.  When it corrected itself the last time, it just started allowing connections to Channel "B", but it was working.  I can't get into the back door remote access to give the TNC a reset.  I will just have to make a trip to the tower site.  Since I now have the 512K Memory Chips for the TNC, I may change it out with a newer version TNC, and modify it so that more than one person can connect to the HRVLWV PBBS at the same time.  In the mean time you may have to Digipeat through Ritchie County station.

Yesterday eight members of WCEC met at one of the city parks to practice putting up a couple temporary antennas and remote receivers to work through the 147.255 MHz voice repeater.  We needed to test out the repeater system since we are going to use it as the main repeater for the safety communications for the Parkersburg Half Marathon on August 19th.  And, today seven of the WCEC members went to Tyler County to participate in some activities being sponsored by the Emergency Services Director Tom Cooper, WV8TOM.

On Tuesday Sammy Mercer, N8SVX, and I will be going toward Clarksburg to meet with Frank Hughes, WD8DEP.  Frank is moving and has some electronic equipment he wants to get rid of.  If he can't give it away, he is going to send it to the landfill.  Frank has been reading some of articles in the DAREN News about modifying old electronic equipment to be used in other ways.  He figured I might be able to use some of it.  I hate seeing any electronic equipment being taken to the landfill.  You would be surprised what old used equipment can be used for.  I'll know more about what I'll be getting when we meet with Frank.

There were only 30 check-ins to the net this week.  Anna Hendershot, KC8JWW, needs only one more check-in to make 1000.  And, Kenneth Gilcrest, AB8KT, needs only one more check-in to make 50.
