DAREN News, are articles and information about the Digital Amateur Radio "Emergency" Network of WV, which operates on 145.69 MHz.  Anyone having any information about DAREN, or Amateur Radio in general, and would like to share it with others, may send it to WA8LLM @ PKBGWV on 145.69 MHz, or to my E-Mail: wa8llm@yahoo.com.  A State Wide DAREN NET is operated every Saturday from 7:00 pm to 10:00 pm, and lately, before and after those hours.  The DAREN Net Announcement, showing the MAIN NCS, ALTERNATE NCS, NODEs accessible to both, and the previous week's check-ins, are posted by Thursday on most of the Main county DAREN PBBS'.  The DAREN News can also be found on the www.wc8ec.com and www.wc8ec.org websites.

Not much to report this week, but we did help with a couple of events on Saturday.  The first event was the Vienna River Road Fun Run, in which 165 runners and walkers participated.  It was a Five Mile Run, and a 5K Walk.  It was a wet and cold morning with 14 Amateurs providing the Race Clock timing and safety communications, for the run and walk.  The second event was a St. Jude Horse Ride in Ritchie County.  The ride was about 12 miles.  The ride started in Ellenboro and went about 6 miles, on the Rails-to-Trails, to North Bend State Park, and then back.  The officials of the ride wanted emergency communications along the trails because there is no Cellphone coverage, and someone always gets hurt.  Amateur operators from both Ritchie County and Wood County set up temporary radio links to the counties main voice repeaters, to give the radio coverage that was needed.  Since it was a wet and cold day, there were only 27 riders, where there used to be as many as 120 to 150 riders. There were eight Amateurs Radio operators helping with the event which also included Amateurs Radio operators on horseback.

I've been trying to order certificate material for the DAREN Check-in Certificates.  I used to get GOES 3465 Gold Flake stock, but I'm having trouble finding it.  The GOES Company has a 2465 which is a Gold Ink stock paper.  From what I can tell, it has the same design.  They are supposed to send me a sample copy of the certificate.  If it is what I want, I will be ordering several certificates so I can get Check-in Certificates printed up and sent out to those who have been waiting for them.

There were 37 check-ins to the State Wide DAREN Net this week.  Richard Vandyke, who used to be KE8FKT, is now KB8RV.  There was one station that checked into the net with the callsign of "REMOTE".  The station checked into the net on Saturday at around 1:55 pm.  If you checked into the net at around that time, don't see your call on the upcoming Net Announcement, and think it may be yours, let me know so that I can get your net participation records caught up.
