DAREN News, are articles and information about the Digital Amateur Radio "Emergency" Network of WV, which operates on 145.69 MHz.  Anyone having any information about DAREN, or Amateur Radio in general, and would like to share it with others, may send it to WA8LLM @ PKBGWV on 145.69 MHz, or to my E-Mail: wa8llm@yahoo.com.  A State Wide DAREN NET is operated every Saturday from 7:00 pm to 10:00 pm, and lately, before and after those hours.  The DAREN Net Announcement, showing the MAIN NCS, ALTERNATE NCS, NODEs accessible to both, and the previous week's check-ins, are posted by Thursday on most of the Main county DAREN PBBS'.  The DAREN News can also be found on the www.wc8ec.com and www.wc8ec.org websites.

On Monday, Sammy Mercer, N8SVX, and I made a trip to the Wirt County tower site of the NODE/PBBS of WIRTWV/ELIZWV.  We changed out the station with one of the 100 Watt Motorola radios that we fixed up.  The station works great, and has paths to the Calhoun County stations of CALHHD/GRNTHD, and ARESWV.  It has paths to several other stations, but the main one we wanted to get a path to was Calhoun County,  I received a packet message from Rod Godfrey, W8RKG, in Calhoun County, which said that installing the Wirt County NODE/PBBS was just what he needed to get back into the DAREN system again.  While Sammy and I were at the tower site we worked on the Wirt County Remote Receiver of the 147.255 MHz voice repeater system.  The UHF Link antenna is mounted on a antenna outrigger that's mounted on one leg of the tower and can't be tightened to keep from swinging in the wind.  The Link antenna just needed to be pointed back to the repeater transmitter.  We measured the distance between the tower legs to make a new outrigger.  When I get some free time, I'll build a new outrigger and take it to the tower site, and re-mount all of the antennas.

I'm going to be busy this week with five different meetings.  One in Wood County for the Vienna River Road Fun Run, one in Pleasants County for School Board, one in Jackson County for the SIRN (State Wide Interoperability Radio Network) and two in Ritchie County.  One of the meetings in Ritchie County will be the LEPC (Local Emergency Planning Committee) and one will be the planning communications for Horse Ride in Ritchie County,  The ride will be between Ellenboro, and the North Bend State Park.  I'm also going to be checking out the race clocks and getting them ready for Vienna River Road Fun Run.  The Fun Run and the Horse Ride are both on Saturday April 22nd.

There were 36 check-ins to the State Wide DAREN Net this week.  Gary Rosenlieb, KC8YJJ, who has been participating in the net since August 27, 2005, has completed 100 check-in and will be receiving his certificate.  I want to welcome Rod Godfrey, W8RKG, back to the net.  Rod has been missing since March 2, 2013.
