DAREN News, are articles and information about the Digital Amateur Radio "Emergency" Network of WV, which operates on 145.69 MHz.  Anyone having any information about DAREN, or Amateur Radio in general, and would like to share it with others, may send it to WA8LLM @ PKBGWV on 145.69 MHz, or to my E-Mail: wa8llm@yahoo.com.  A State Wide DAREN NET is operated every Saturday from 7:00 pm to 10:00 pm, and lately, before and after those hours.  The DAREN Net Announcement, showing the MAIN NCS, ALTERNATE NCS, NODEs accessible to both, and the previous week's check-ins, are posted by Thursday on most of the Main county DAREN PBBS'.  The DAREN News can also be found on the www.wc8ec.com and www.wc8ec.org websites.

It's going to be a short DAREN News this week.  The only thing that I know of is the Wood County Emergency Communications Meeting and Christmas Dinner.  The group will be holding their dinner before their monthly business/ARES Meeting this coming Tuesday.  They will also be participating in two Christmas Parades, one in Vienna and one in Parkersburg this coming Saturday, December 10th. Things have really slowed down since the cold weather has set in.  You would think I'd have more time, but that's not the case.  Since the group is going to have a trailer in the parade, guess who gets to set up the sound system to go on the trailer?  After getting the sound system set up, I need to go to the library and get ready for at least one person who wants to take her Technician License exam.  I will miss the Vienna Parade, but if timing is right, I should be able to make the Parkersburg Parade.

I did get an E-Mail from Jason Means, W8KTM, the new ARES Emergency Coordinator for Kanawha County.  Jason wanted to know some information about the DAREN system and would like to talk to me about it.  I gave him information about the WCEC website: www.wc8ec.org where he could find a lot of information about the DAREN system, and I gave him telephone numbers where he could contact me.  I haven't heard back from him yet.  I guess it's possible the return E-Mail may have got lost in cyber space somewhere.  I'll resend the information to him.

There were 34 check-ins to the State Wide DAREN Net again this week.  Jeffrey Hensley, WD4VA, who has been participating in the net since August 27, 2011, has completed 250 check-ins.  And, Rick Sawyer, WV8DOC, who has been participating in the net since April 2, 2011, has completed 50 check-ins.  Both of these operators will be receiving their certificates.

That's if for this week.
