DAREN News, are articles and information about the Digital Amateur Radio "Emergency" Network of WV, which operates on 145.69 MHz. Anyone having any information about DAREN, or Amateur Radio in general, and would like to share it with others, may send it to WA8LLM @ PKBGWV on 145.69 MHz, or to my E-Mail: wa8llm@yahoo.com. A State Wide DAREN NET is operated every Saturday from 7:00 pm to 10:00 pm, and lately, before and after those hours. The DAREN Net Announcement, showing the MAIN NCS, ALTERNATE NCS, NODEs accessible to both, and the previous week's check-ins, are posted by Thursday on most of the Main county DAREN PBBS'. The DAREN News can also be found on the www.wc8ec.com and www.wc8ec.org websites.
Nothing much to report this week. I haven't heard from anyone about any activities that are going on, and all of the WCEC (Wood County Emergency Communications) events, except their Christmas Dinner, are over for this year.
I had trouble posting the DAREN News and weekly State Wide DAREN Net Announcement on the Richwood PBBS of RWODWV. I didn't have much trouble with any of the other PBBSs.
I'll be going to the WCEC Business Meeting on Tuesday and talk about the removing on the tower at the Tyler County Amateur Radio Organization site. We were at the tower site a few weeks ago and had to pull off the job due to the hot humid weather. Once we get the tower down, we will be planning to put it up here in Wood County. The tower will be used as a remote receiver site for the 147.255 MHz voice repeater, and a backup station for the Wood County NODE/PBBS of WOODWV/PKBGWV. Other stations such as APRS, and remote receivers for other voice repeaters in the county may be on the tower. Since there is no electricity near the site, plans are to operate the site from solar power.
If anyone is interested in a very good dual band 10 watt UHF/VHF handheld radio, you might look a the TYT U/V 8000E. The hand held also has cross band repeat. We used one of them as a cross band repeater at the Parkersburg/Wood County Hamfest. With it we were able to use low power UHF hand held radios to communicate through the 147.255 MHz repeater, which was used for Hamfest Talk- In information.
There were 32 check-ins to the State Wide DAREN Net again this week. Robert Sellars, KB2FEL, needs only one more check-in to make 450. Now that things are slowing down, I will start printing certificates for those who have been waiting for theirs.
