DAREN News, are articles and information about the Digital Amateur Radio "Emergency" Network of WV, which operates on 145.69 MHz. Anyone having any information about DAREN, or Amateur Radio in general, and would like to share it with others, may send it to WA8LLM @ PKBGWV on 145.69 MHz, or to my E-Mail: wa8llm@yahoo.com. A State Wide DAREN NET is operated every Saturday from 7:00 pm to 10:00 pm, and lately, before and after those hours. The DAREN Net Announcement, showing the MAIN NCS, ALTERNATE NCS, NODEs accessible to both, and the previous week's check-ins, are posted by Thursday on most of the Main county DAREN PBBS'. The DAREN News can also be found on the www.wc8ec.com and www.wc8ec.org websites.
I got a telephone call from Henry (Hank) Kenealy, K1DOS, this past week about his Hampshire County NODE/PBBS of HAMPWV/RMNYWV. Hank has been working with his TNC, trying to make it match other stations on the DAREN network. He is planning to move the station to his neighbors house the first chance he gets. The new location will place the station about 300 feet higher. The station seems to be working pretty good. I haven't tried very many paths to get to the station, but it does work very good though the Mineral County NODE of MINEWV. I want to thank Hank for putting the station on the air, and helping other operators have access to the DAREN system.
This past week and weekend was pretty busy. The weather was very good, except for the rain storm that went through the area Saturday evening, around 10:00 pm, after most of the Parkersburg Homecoming activities were over. Several Amateurs from the WCEC (Wood County Emergency Communication) organization and the PARK (Parkersburg Amateur Radio Klub), were at each of the Parkersburg Half Marathon Mile Markers. The Amateurs were had a Race Clocks at each mile marker that needed to be started at the beginning of the race Saturday morning. There were no major problems with the race, and the race officials were very happy with the Amateur Radio operators. Members of WCEC operated the BINGO games at the Homecoming, and were very successful.
The State Wide DAREN Net was down again this week. There were only 29 check- ins. Anna Hendershot, KC8JWW, needs only one more check-in to make 950. Krista Mills, KC8VLJ, needs only one more check-in to make 650. And, Krista's picture is in the September issue of QST. It is located on page 103. She won some kind of ARRL Scholarship.
