DAREN News, are articles and information about the Digital Amateur Radio "Emergency" Network of WV, which operates on 145.69 MHz.  Anyone having any information about DAREN, or Amateur Radio in general, and would like to share it with others, may send it to WA8LLM @ PKBGWV on 145.69 MHz, or to my E-Mail: wa8llm@yahoo.com.  A State Wide DAREN NET is operated every Saturday from 7:00 pm to 10:00 pm, and lately, before and after those hours.  The DAREN Net Announcement, showing the MAIN NCS, ALTERNATE NCS, NODEs accessible to both, and the previous week's check-ins, are posted by Thursday on most of the Main county DAREN PBBS'.  The DAREN News can also be found on the www.wc8ec.com and www.wc8ec.org websites.

I got an E-Mail from Henry (Hank) Kenealy, K1DOS, about a NODE/PBBS that he has put into operation on the DAREN system.  Hank says the Aliases for the Call/PBBS/NODE are K1DOS/K1DOS-1/K1DOS-7.  The station is located on the East side of Mill Creek Mountain due West of Romney, WV.  The station is about 1800 feet above sea level, but is also 300 feet lower than the crest/ridge of the mountain.  Working the station may be a challenge, but at least it's another station that may be able to help DAREN operator get through the system.  He thinks he may be able to move the station to a neighbors house which is on the ridge/crest at a later date.  I want to thank Hank for helping keep the DAREN system operational.

I'm going to be busy this week.  The Parkersburg Homecoming is going to be held on August 19th, 20th, and 21st.  The WCEC (Wood County Emergency Communication) group will be operating the BINGO games at the event.  I will be taking six trailers to the BINGO location.  Each trailer will have the equipment to set up the games.  The equipment will be the canopy trailer, two table trailers, a chair trailer, the BINGO trailer, and the WCEC Communications Trailer, which will be used as the office.  On Thursday the group will be setting up the 24 by 80 foot canopy, enough table space, and chairs to sit 150 players.  Before the games start on Saturday, several Amateurs from WCEC and the Parkersburg Amateur Radio Klub (PARK) will be providing the communications, and racing clocks for the Half Marathon.

If you have any activities that you would like to have other know about, drop me a line.  We need to let the public, and public safety people know about Amateur Radio.

The State Wide DAREN Net was really down this week.  There were only 27 check- ins.  Brad Carabine, KC8TYU, who has been participating in the net since October 19, 2002, has completed 650 check-ins, and will be receiving his certificate.  There was still one check-in to the net again this week with the callsign of "NOCALL".  The station checked into the net on Saturday evening at around 7:12 pm.  If you don't see your callsign on this weeks Net Announcement, and think it may have been you, let me know so I can update your net participation records.
