DAREN News, are articles and information about the Digital Amateur Radio "Emergency" Network of WV, which operates on 145.69 MHz.  Anyone having any information about DAREN, or Amateur Radio in general, and would like to share it with others, may send it to WA8LLM @ PKBGWV on 145.69 MHz, or to my E-Mail: wa8llm@yahoo.com.  A State Wide DAREN NET is operated every Saturday from 7:00 pm to 10:00 pm, and lately, before and after those hours.  The DAREN Net Announcement, showing the MAIN NCS, ALTERNATE NCS, NODEs accessible to both, and the previous week's check-ins, are posted by Thursday on most of the Main county DAREN PBBS'.  The DAREN News can also be found on the www.wc8ec.com and www.wc8ec.org websites.

Gene Roy, N8ER, sent me an E-Mail to let me know the Tucker County NODE/PBBS of TUCKWV/DAVIWV is back in operation.  He let me know that when there is an antenna problem with the 147.135 MHz voice repeater, which is at the same site as the DAREN Packet station, they need to use the DAREN antenna to get the voice station back in operation.  It's more important to have the voice repeater on the air since it is part of the Hamtalk linked repeater system. The site where the voice and DAREN stations are located is about 4000 feet, and that can cover a lot of area for both voice and Packet.

Terry Mills, KC8TUE, said that things are coming along good for the Parkersburg Wood County Hamfest.  He wanted to let everyone know the Hamfest will be held at the same location as it has been for the past seven years.  The Hamfest will be held at the Wood County 4-H Campgrounds on Butcher Bend Road, near Mineral Wells.  Mineral Wells is I-77 South of Parkersburg at Exit 170.  The Hamfest will be held on October 8th.  As it gets closer you can find more information on the Wood County Emergency Communications website of: www.wc8ec.org

There were only 27 check-ins to the State Wide DAREN Net this week.  Joe Peterson, N8DSN, who has been participating since March 26, 1994, has completed 1100 check-ins and will be receiving his certificate.  My wife Dot, KC8HAI, needs only one more check-in to make 1000.  And, my son Kevin, KC8OXY, needs only one more check-in to make 800.  There is still one station that hasn't found out the callsign in their TNC is still setup as "NOCALL".  That station checked into the net at around 11:29 am on Saturday morning.  If anyone knows who that operator might be, you might let them know about the callsign in their TNC.  I will keep their check-ins on file until they let me know so I can update their check-in records.  I want to make sure everyone gets the credit they deserve for participating in the net.  Every check-in counts especially since the net check-ins are dropping off.  I want to thank everyone for participating in the net each week, and I will keep holding it as long as I can.
