DAREN News, are articles and information about the Digital Amateur Radio "Emergency" Network of WV, which operates on 145.69 MHz.  Anyone having any information about DAREN, or Amateur Radio in general, and would like to share it with others, may send it to WA8LLM @ PKBGWV on 145.69 MHz, or to my E-Mail: wa8llm@yahoo.com.  A State Wide DAREN NET is operated every Saturday from 7:00 pm to 10:00 pm, and lately, before and after those hours.  The DAREN Net Announcement, showing the MAIN NCS, ALTERNATE NCS, NODEs accessible to both, and the previous week's check-ins, are posted by Thursday on most of the Main county DAREN PBBS'.  The DAREN News can also be found on the www.wc8ec.com and www.wc8ec.org websites.

Not much news this week.  I haven't heard from anyone about the system, or any activities they have been involved with.  I've been listening to reports about the storms that went through West Virginia on June 23rd.  There has been a lot damage, but no reports of communication outages.  Either the Cellular Telephone systems stayed up, or there has just been no need for emergency communications. Most of the NODEs and PBBSs in that area of the state have been off the air for several years, so we wouldn't have much luck with the DAREN system.  If the time comes that emergency communications, and the DAREN system are needed, in that area, equipment can be made available, but we would need some tower locations and Amateurs to help set them up.  In the mean time we can just listen to all of the reports.

I'm still trying to get all of my equipment put back together after Field Day, and get ready for our next events.  I need to finish building two more Racing clocks for the Parkersburg Half Marathon which will be on August 20, during the Parkersburg Homecoming.  We're also getting ready for the Hamfest which will be held on October 8th.

That's it for this week, maybe I'll have more next week.

There were only 31 check-ins to the State Wide DAREN Net week.  Frank Hughes, WD8DEP, needs only one more check-in to make 550.  There was one station that checked into the net with the callsign of "NOCALL".  The station checked into the net on Saturday afternoon around 4:53pm.  If you don't see your callsign on this week’s Net Announcement, and think it may have been you, let me know so I can update your net participation records.
