DAREN News, are articles and information about the Digital Amateur Radio "Emergency" Network of WV, which operates on 145.69 MHz.  Anyone having any information about DAREN, or Amateur Radio in general, and would like to share it with others, may send it to WA8LLM @ PKBGWV on 145.69 MHz, or to my E-Mail: wa8llm@yahoo.com.  A State Wide DAREN NET is operated every Saturday from 7:00 pm to 10:00 pm, and lately, before and after those hours.  The DAREN Net Announcement, showing the MAIN NCS, ALTERNATE NCS, NODEs accessible to both, and the previous week's check-ins, are posted by Thursday on most of the Main county DAREN PBBS'.  The DAREN News can also be found on the www.wc8ec.com and www.wc8ec.org websites.

While I was trying to post the DAREN News and State Wide DAREN Net announcement around the state a few days ago, I found one of the NODE/PBBS stations off the air.  The Wetzel County NODE/PBBS of WETZWV/NMARWV that I had just fixed last week is down again.  If I can get a station that I can put on 145.00 MHz, I can try to connect to it.  I changed out the radio when I was up there on June 11th because it had lost it's memory and went back to 145.00 MHz.  I guess the new one could have lost it's memory too.  In any case I will have to make another trip sometime in the future.

We had a very good General Class licensing class yesterday.  There were eight Technicians in the class and all of them upgraded to General.  Four of those in the class had taken the Technician class on May 14th, passed the test, and received their Technician licenses.  One General was studying for his Extra during the class.  He took his exam during the testing session and passed it. Everyone went away happy.

Field Day is next weekend, so now is the time to get ready.  I know I'm going to be busy all week getting all the Field Day equipment together.  I also need to sit up a couple of the Wood County Emergency Communication 24 by 40 canopies for one of the churches in the area.

There were 31 check-ins to the State Wide DAREN Net again this week.  Terry Mills, KC8TUE, needs only one more check-in to make 650.  And, John Western, KC8ODI, needs only one more check-in to make 550.  There were two new check-ins to the net this week, and they were Joe (KD8YVB), and Brent (KD8DLX) Rice of Parkersburg.  Joe and Brent have been on Packet Radio for a couple of months, and have been checking into the District 3/WCEC ARES Net since they got on Packet.  They finally got into the State Wide DAREN.  I want to welcome both of them to the DAREN system.
