DAREN News, are articles and information about the Digital Amateur Radio "Emergency" Network of WV, which operates on 145.69 MHz.  Anyone having any information about DAREN, or Amateur Radio in general, and would like to share it with others, may send it to WA8LLM @ PKBGWV on 145.69 MHz, or to my E-Mail: wa8llm@yahoo.com.  A State Wide DAREN NET is operated every Saturday from 7:00 pm to 10:00 pm, and lately, before and after those hours.  The DAREN Net Announcement, showing the MAIN NCS, ALTERNATE NCS, NODEs accessible to both, and the previous week's check-ins, are posted by Thursday on most of the Main county DAREN PBBS'.  The DAREN News can also be found on the www.wc8ec.com and www.wc8ec.org websites.

I spent Thursday morning, helping to take down the antennas and tower owned by Father Joe Peterson, N8DSN.  He needed to get the antennas and tower down before the 9th of June so he could get them on a big U-Haul truck to go to Wheeling, where he's moving.  While we were taking down the tower, we were discussing how long he had been in Parkersburg.  I hadn't realized that he has been in the Parkersburg area for almost 12 years.  I can still remember when Joe moved from Huntington to Parkersburg, and we put his tower and antennas up.

For the past couple of weeks I haven't been able to connect to the Wirt County NODE/PBBS of ELIZWV/WIRTWV.  I need to make a trip to Elizabeth and try to find out what the problem is.  A Remote Receiver for the 147.255 MHz Voice Repeater at the same tower site is also off the air.

If I get time, I need to put together another DAREN station to take to New Martinsville this coming Saturday.  Since I'm going to be in that area doing a One Day Technician License class, I thought I might stop by the tower site where the Wetzel County NODE/PBBS of NMARWV/WETZWV is at.  The station has been off the air for over a year.

If you get hungry, the Wood County Emergency Communications group is holding a Chicken Dinner next Sunday, June 12th.  The dinner will be held at the Mineral Wells Community Building on Route 14, about a mile off of Interstate I-77 exit 170, just south of Parkersburg.  The dinner will be from 11:00am to 4:00pm.

If you have any announcements to make, or activities that will be going on, or has happened, let me know.  I need something to write about to keep the DAREN News of WV going.

There were 32 check-ins to the State Wide DAREN Net this week.  Jim Woodford, KC8MLK, needs only one more check-in to make 600.  And, Keith Dobbins, N8KLD, needs only one more check-in to make 150.
