DAREN News, are articles and information about the Digital Amateur Radio "Emergency" Network of WV, which operates on 145.69 MHz.  Anyone having any information about DAREN, or Amateur Radio in general, and would like to share it with others, may send it to WA8LLM @ PKBGWV on 145.69 MHz, or to my E-Mail: wa8llm@yahoo.com.  A State Wide DAREN NET is operated every Saturday from 7:00 pm to 10:00 pm, and lately, before and after those hours.  The DAREN Net Announcement, showing the MAIN NCS, ALTERNATE NCS, NODEs accessible to both, and the previous week's check-ins, are posted by Thursday on most of the Main county DAREN PBBS'.  The DAREN News can also be found on the www.wc8ec.com and www.wc8ec.org websites.

Twelve Amateurs and two Amateurs-to-be, in the Wood County area, provided the safety communications, and operated the racing clocks for the Chic-Fil-A 10K and 2 Mile Run/Walk races yesterday.  The weather bureau projected rain, but it held off until after the races were over.  No major injuries were reported and the race officials were glad to have the Amateur Radio help.

Joe, KD8YVB, and Brent, KD8DLX, Rice, purchased a couple of Kantronics KPC-3 TNCs at the Charleston Hamfest a few weeks back.  I have made up a cable to go between one of the TNCs and their new Alinco DR-135 radio.  They have had their computer talking to one of the TNCs.  Once I get the cable to them, they should be able to get onto Packet Radio.  I'm planning to get the cable to them tomorrow with any luck.  They have been talking about getting on the DAREN system for several weeks.

On June 18th, the Wood County W5YI VE Team will be holding a one day General Class Amateur Radio License class.  The class will be held at the Mid-Ohio Valley Health Department, 211 6th Street, Parkersburg, and start at about 9:00 am.  If you know of anyone who needs to upgrade to General, please let them know.  They can contact me at the above information.

The State Wide DAREN Net was really down this week.  There were only 29 check- ins.  The low net count might have been because it is the Dayton Hamfest weekend, and some of the DAREN operators were out of town.  We'll just have to wait and see what happens next week.  Quentin (Butch) Sayers Jr., WV8BS, needs only one more check-ins to make 200.
