DAREN News, are articles and information about the Digital Amateur Radio "Emergency" Network of WV, which operates on 145.69 MHz.  Anyone having any information about DAREN, or Amateur Radio in general, and would like to share it with others, may send it to WA8LLM @ PKBGWV on 145.69 MHz, or to my E-Mail: wa8llm@yahoo.com.  A State Wide DAREN NET is operated every Saturday from 7:00 pm to 10:00 pm, and lately, before and after those hours.  The DAREN Net Announcement, showing the MAIN NCS, ALTERNATE NCS, NODEs accessible to both, and the previous week's check-ins, are posted by Thursday on most of the Main county DAREN PBBS'.  The DAREN News can also be found on the www.wc8ec.com and www.wc8ec.org websites.

When I started this weeks News, I noticed that I had the wrong date on last weeks News.  Since I copy and paste a lot while putting together the News, I forgot to change the date.

The Wood County Emergency Communications group held a one day Technician Class License class yesterday.  Nine people took the class and all nine of them passed their tests, and will be receiving their licenses.  One person came in with a Novice License and wanted to upgrade to Technician.  Another one who came in to take the Technician License also took a chance at his General License, and passed it.

I've been talking to the Tyler County Emergency Services Director, Tom Cooper, WV8TOM, about a one day Technician License class.  Tom is wanting the Wood County VE Team to do the class.  For now the date has been set for June 11th, but nothing has been set in stone yet, it's still in the planning stages. Those wanting to get their license are members of the Jesus Christ of Latter- day Saints Church in either Tyler County or Wetzel County.  There are about 25 people who are wanting to take the class.  Tom has another Amateur, Bill Sams, KE8KR, who is planning to do a short Amateur Radio class, over a couple of weekends, to get the students ready for the one day class.  While I'm up in that area, I may try to get the Wetzel County NODE/PBBS of WETZWV/NMARWV back on the air.

Next Saturday, May 21st, the Amateurs in the Wood County area will be providing the communications, and operating their racing clocks for another race.  The communications will be for the Chic-Fil-A 10K Road Run in Parkersburg.  Any one wanting to help with the race is welcome.

There were 38 check-ins to the State Wide DAREN Net this week.
