DAREN News, are articles and information about the Digital Amateur Radio "Emergency" Network of WV, which operates on 145.69 MHz.  Anyone having any information about DAREN, or Amateur Radio in general, and would like to share it with others, may send it to WA8LLM @ PKBGWV on 145.69 MHz, or to my E-Mail: wa8llm@yahoo.com.  A State Wide DAREN NET is operated every Saturday from 7:00 pm to 10:00 pm, and lately, before and after those hours.  The DAREN Net Announcement, showing the MAIN NCS, ALTERNATE NCS, NODEs accessible to both, and the previous week's check-ins, are posted by Thursday on most of the Main county DAREN PBBS'.  The DAREN News can also be found on the www.wc8ec.com and www.wc8ec.org websites.

I don't know what to write about this week, since I haven't heard from anyone and there's been no activity on the DAREN system.  So, I'll just try to rattle on about something.  I haven't had much luck with the wind generator that I've been working on, so I don't know if I will get it ready for Field Day.  The weather is supposed to be better this week, so I think I'll be outside getting ready for spring and summer.  I need to get my tomato plants ready to go in the greenhouse so I can have fresh tomatos this summer.  I hope to see some of the DAREN system users at the Charleston Hamfest next Saturday.  Speaking of hamfests, I need to submit the application to the ARRL to have the Parkersburg, Wood County hamfest as an ARRL approved hamfest.  The Parkesburg/Wood County hamfest will be held on October 8th this year.  The hamfest will be held at the same location as in the past.  It will be held at the 4-H Campgrounds on Butcher Bend road in Mineral Wells.  The three main prizes have already been purchased and are sitting on the shelf.  The first, second, and third place prizes are: Alinco DX-SR8T HF Transceiver, Yeasu FT-1900R/E 2 Meter Transceiver and a Wouxum KG-UV6X Dual Band 144/440 MHz Transceiver in that order.  You don't need to be present to win the main prizes.  We still need to gather up some more door prizes that will be given away every five minutes.  We also have an 800 Watt generator that will be give away as a door prize, which you need to be present to win.  Don't forget the flea market tables are FREE for those who let us know ahead of time.  And, there is FREE coffee all day long.  You can get additional information about the hamfest when it get posted on the Wood County Emergency Communications website: www.wc8ec.org or www.wc8ec.com

I don't have much else to write about, so I'll post what I have for this week. If you have anything you want to pass on to others, let me know.

There were 44 check-ins to the State Wide DAREN Net this week.  Roy Huffman, KD8YKR, who has been participating in the net since May 10, 2014, has completed 50 check-ins, and will be receiving his certificate.  Since I have been getting behind printing up certificates, I guess I had better get caught up.  I may start working on the certificates for those who are waiting for them.
