DAREN News, are articles and information about the Digital Amateur Radio "Emergency" Network of WV, which operates on 145.69 MHz.  Anyone having any information about DAREN, or Amateur Radio in general, and would like to share it with others, may send it to WA8LLM @ PKBGWV on 145.69 MHz, or to my E-Mail: wa8llm@yahoo.com.  A State Wide DAREN NET is operated every Saturday from 7:00 pm to 10:00 pm, and lately, before and after those hours.  The DAREN Net Announcement, showing the MAIN NCS, ALTERNATE NCS, NODEs accessible to both, and the previous week's check-ins, are posted by Thursday on most of the Main county DAREN PBBS'.  The DAREN News can also be found on the www.wc8ec.com and www.wc8ec.org websites.

Things have really been slow.  We got another eight to ten inches of snow this past week, and I saw the temperature was only Minus .2 degrees at one time.  I did get off the hill on Wednesday to go to the Wood County LEPC (Local Emergency Planning Committee) meeting to give a presentation on Amateur Radio and Wood County Emergency Communication.  There were 20 people at the meeting, and three of them said they would be interested in getting their Amateur License.  I told them that Wood County Emergency Communications will be holding a One Day Technician License class.  The class will be held on May 14th at the Mid Ohio Valley Health Department in Parkersburg.  If you know of any one wanting to get their license, have them get a hold of me.  We are also planning to hold a General License class in June, but the date hasn't been set, but we are looking for the weekend before Field Day.

I've been putting together some Packet Radio station, using the Motorola Maratrac mobile units that I picked up a couple months ago.  I will be taking one of them to a meeting in Ripley on Thursday to show the person who gave us the radios how they are being used.  Maybe the next time old used radios come available, he will think about letting the Amateur Radio operators have them. Any time that you get a chance to work with Fire, Police, Emergency Services, and other Public Safety agencies, check with them to see what they do with their old radio they take out of service.  Most of what they do away with can be used in the Amateur Radio service.

There were only 36 check-ins to the State Wide DAREN Net this week.
