DAREN News, are articles and information about the Digital Amateur Radio "Emergency" Network of WV, which operates on 145.69 MHz.  Anyone having any information about DAREN, or Amateur Radio in general, and would like to share it with others, may send it to WA8LLM @ PKBGWV on 145.69 MHz, or to my E-Mail: wa8llm@yahoo.com.  A State Wide DAREN NET is operated every Saturday from 7:00 pm to 10:00 pm, and lately, before and after those hours.  The DAREN Net Announcement, showing the MAIN NCS, ALTERNATE NCS, NODEs accessible to both, and the previous week's check-ins, are posted by Thursday on most of the Main county DAREN PBBS'.  The DAREN News can also be found on the wc8ec.com website.

I received an E-Mail from Eugene Roy, N8ER.  Gene said that Zane Hammack, WV8ZH, made a trip to the Randolph County NODE/PBBS of RANDWV/ELKNWV.  He said that Zane found the receive sensitivity of the transceiver was very low.  Zane took the station off the hill to work on it.  He said Zane is hoping to get the station back on the air Monday or Tuesday of this week.  When I was posting the DAREN News and Net Announcements around the state this past week, I had accidentally connected from the Ritchie County NODE of RITCWV to The Tucker County NODE/PBBS of TUCKWV/DAVISWV.  I knew at that time there was no problem at the Ritchie County station.  My Nephew Sammy Mercer, N8SVX, came out to the house on Tuesday, and we started testing and repairing some Kantronics KPC-3 Terminal Node Controllers that had been damaged.  We got enough TNCs repaired to put together at least three packet stations.  The day after we worked on the TNCs, I started putting together the interface cables to go between the TNCs and the transceivers.  I now have enough cables to build up the three stations that I want to use and replace the Jackson County NODE/PBBS of JACKWV/RPLYWV, the Wetzel County NODE/PBBS of WETZWV/NMARWV, and the Wirt County NODE/PBBS of WIRTWV/ELIZWV.  I have a couple other projects in the works, but I should be able to have the stations built up this coming week.

Tom White, W3JTW, sent me an E-Mail saying the Pendleton County NODE/PBBS of PENDWV/FKLNWV, is giving him a very good signal now that the station has been worked on.  He says he's now able to get back into the DAREN system and the weekly net.  He wanted to thank all of those who worked on the station and got it going so good.

I just got home a little bit ago and started on the DAREN News.  My wife Dot, KC8HAI, Terry Mills, KC8TUE, Joe Rice, KD8YVB, and Rick Sawyer, WV8DOC, had to take down and disassemble a couple of 24 by 40 foot canopies that we put up on Friday.  It took about as long to take them down as it did to put them up. Since that is about the last activity we have for the year, maybe I can start printing the State Wide DAREN Net Check-in Certificates, and send them out to those who have been waiting for them.  But, I do have a two day class that I will be going to on Wednesday and Thursday to take first.

There were 38 check-ins to the State Wide DAREN Net this week.
