DAREN News, are articles and information about the Digital Amateur Radio "Emergency" Network of WV, which operates on 145.69 MHz.  Anyone having any information about DAREN, or Amateur Radio in general, and would like to share it with others, may send it to WA8LLM @ PKBGWV on 145.69 MHz, or to my E-Mail: wa8llm@yahoo.com.  A State Wide DAREN NET is operated every Saturday from 7:00 pm to 10:00 pm, and lately, before and after those hours.  The DAREN Net Announcement, showing the MAIN NCS, ALTERNATE NCS, NODEs accessible to both, and the previous week's check-ins, are posted by Thursday on most of the Main county DAREN PBBS'.  The DAREN News can also be found on the wc8ec.com website.

I received an E-Mail from Eugene Roy, N8ER, a couple of days ago about a trip that is going to make this coming Tuesday.  Gene said that he and Mark Sweitzer, KD8MIV, are going to join Bruce Minor, KA8ZKL, on North Mountain to look a the Pendleton County NODE/PBBS of PENDWV/FKLNWV.  Bruce is the Emergency Services of Pendleton County and is very interested in Helping.  Gene doesn't know anything about the tower site, but he assembled the station back in 1997, when it was on Spruce Knob.  Gene said that Bob Tuckerman, W3RUA, told him the antenna was only a Magnet Mount antenna sitting on the roof of the building. The group is taking additional equipment, and are hoping to get the station back in good working order.  He said a better antenna can be installed at a later date.

I'm going to be busy this coming week.  On Monday, Terry Mills, KC8TUE, is going to drive to Columbus, OH, to pick up the Main Prize transceivers for the Parkersburg/Wood County Hamfest next Saturday.  My Wife, Dot, KC8HAI, and I are going along for the ride, and I get to sign the check.  Then on Tuesday, at 5:00 pm several members of the WCEC group will be proving the communications for the last High School/Middle School Cross County races.  After the are races over, we have to beat feet to the Monthly WCEC business meeting held in Lubeck, WV, about half an hour away.  The rest of the week will be dedicated to getting ready for Hamfest on Saturday.

There were 35 check-ins to the State Wide DAREN Net this week.  Roy Humes, N8RH, need only one more check-in to make 950.

I sure hope I can get some time to work on all of the certificates that several DAREN operators are waiting for.  The Hamfest is our groups last major event, except for sitting up and taking down the 24 by 80 foot canopy for the Broadway Church of Nazarene.  The church is holding a Halloween Party on October 31st, for the kids in the neighborhood, and that should allow me some free time. Yea, right.
