DAREN News, are articles and information about the Digital Amateur Radio "Emergency" Network of WV, which operates on 145.69 MHz.  Anyone having any information about DAREN, or Amateur Radio in general, and would like to share it with others, may send it to WA8LLM @ PKBGWV on 145.69 MHz, or to my E-Mail: wa8llm@yahoo.com.  A State Wide DAREN NET is operated every Saturday from 7:00 pm to 10:00 pm, and lately, before and after those hours.  The DAREN Net Announcement, showing the MAIN NCS, ALTERNATE NCS, NODEs accessible to both, and the previous week's check-ins, are posted by Thursday on most of the Main county DAREN PBBS'.  The DAREN News can also be found on the wc8ec.com website.

I have very sad news this week.  John Peterson, K8ZPR, has passed away.  John has been a big supporter in the DAREN system since April 23, 1994.  His son Joe Peterson, N8DSN, wanted to let me know that John has been in the hospital for the last month.  John was registered as a life member in the Army MARS program, and the inspiration to me in changing the Check-in Text on the State Wide DAREN Net to use the word "participation".  I'll miss talking to John on the telephone, and his visits when he came to Parkersburg.  John passed away early Thursday morning, September 17th.

On Tuesday, September 22, Sammy Mercer, N8SVX, and I are planning to put together two complete DAREN Packet stations.  Since the Wetzel County NODE/PBBS of WETZWV/NMARWV has been off the air for several months, and the Jackson County NODE/PBBS of JACKWV/RPLYWV doesn't seem to be working very well, we have decided to change out both stations.  The new stations will be complete with radios, TNCs, batteries, and a power supply.  If things go right we are planning to make a trip to Jackson County on Tuesday, September 29th, and to Wetzel County on Tuesday, October 5th, to change out the stations.  Sometime in the next few weeks we are planning to work on the Wirt County NODE/PBBS of WIRTWV/ELIZWV, which seems to be having a problem.

The Amateurs in the Wood County area will be helping with the High School and Middle School Cross Country this coming Tuesday evening.  After the races, I'm going to be busy taking trailers to Mountwood Park for the Volcano Days festival next weekend.  The WCEC group will be operating the BINGO games at the festival.

There were 34 check-ins to the State Wide DAREN Net again this week.  Tricia Magyarosi, KC8VLI, who has been participating in the net since December 28, 2002, has completed 600 check-ins and will be receiving her certificate.
