DAREN News, are articles and information about the Digital Amateur Radio "Emergency" Network of WV, which operates on 145.69 MHz. Anyone having any information about DAREN, or Amateur Radio in general, and would like to share it with others, may send it to WA8LLM @ PKBGWV on 145.69 MHz, or to my E-Mail: wa8llm@yahoo.com. A State Wide DAREN NET is operated every Saturday from 7:00 pm to 10:00 pm, and lately, before and after those hours. The DAREN Net Announcement, showing the MAIN NCS, ALTERNATE NCS, NODEs accessible to both, and the previous week's check-ins, are posted by Thursday on most of the Main county DAREN PBBS'. The DAREN News can also be found on the wc8ec.com website.
Not much news this week. I haven't heard from anyone, and I'm trying to get everything ready for the Volcano Day festival coming up on the 25th, 26th and the 27th.
If anyone has any activities they would like to announce or report on let me know.
There were 38 check-ins to the State Wide DAREN Net again this week. Gene Roy, N8ER, who has been participating in the net since May 1, 1993, has completed 1150 check-ins. Anna Hendershot, KC8JWW, who has been participating in the net since May 9, 1998, has completed 900 check-ins. Krista Mills, KC8VLJ, who has been participating in the net since December 28, 2002, has completed 600 check- ins. And, Jerry Strum, KC8SIG, who has been participating in the net since May 9, 2009, has completed 300 check-ins. All of these operators will be receiving their certificates. Tricia Magyarosi, KC8VLI, needs only one more check-in to make 600. There was one new check-in to the net this week and that was George Faulkner, KD8YKO, from Thomas, WV. I want to welcome George to the DAREN system, and hope he can participate as often as possible.
Speaking of certificates, I've been getting behind on getting the certificate printed up and sent out. This has been a busy summer for me, but it should slow down shortly. The only things scheduled till the end of the year are two High School/Middle School Cross Country foot races, one September 22nd and one October 6th, the Volcano Days BINGO September 25th, 26th, 27th, the Wood County Hamfest on October 10th, and an all day Disaster Exercise at the Mid Ohio Health Department on December 10th. Maybe somewhere between these activities, I can get the Net Certificates printed up and mailed out to those who have been waiting for them.
