DAREN News, are articles and information about the Digital Amateur Radio "Emergency" Network of WV, which operates on 145.69 MHz.  Anyone having any information about DAREN, or Amateur Radio in general, and would like to share it with others, may send it to WA8LLM @ PKBGWV on 145.69 MHz, or to my E-Mail: wa8llm@yahoo.com.  A State Wide DAREN NET is operated every Saturday from 7:00 pm to 10:00 pm, and lately, before and after those hours.  The DAREN Net Announcement, showing the MAIN NCS, ALTERNATE NCS, NODEs accessible to both, and the previous week's check-ins, are posted by Thursday on most of the Main county DAREN PBBS'.  The DAREN News can also be found on the wc8ec.com website.

I hope everyone had a happy and safe 4th of July holiday.  I think I heard fireworks all night over the holiday.  I didn't hear of anyone getting hurt with fireworks, so that's a good thing.

I didn't get any reports from anyone this past week, so the DAREN News will be short.  I've been busy putting everything back together after Field Day.  I keep finding equipment that I couldn't find for Field Day, and I am hunting for equipment that we used for Field Day, and can't find now.  I'm sure they will show up before Field Day next year.  Don't forget to get your Field Day report sent in before the 28th of this month.  If you haven't sent a Field Day report to the ARRL electronically, it's easy and fast.  You will also get a confirmation E-Mail back from the ARRL, that will let you know the report made it there.  The only thing you have to do then is send in the paper report, if you didn't send it electronically.  It usually takes me a couple of months to get all of the paper work together and sent in, but at least the electronic report is in their hands.

There were 39 check-ins to the State Wide DAREN Net this week.  Kimberly Shiflett, KD8OWG, who has been checking into the State Wide DAREN Net since May 11, 2011, has completed 200 check-ins and will be receiving her certificate. Terry Mills, KC8TUE, needs only one more check-in to make 600.  Melvin Shiflett, KD8OHG, needs only one more check-in to make 200.  There was one new check-in to the net this week, and that was Hugh Fox, KD8YKN, from Mabie, WV. Last week I had an unknown callsign that checked into the net that I couldn't make out, and that was KDKYKN.  Since Hugh had never checked into the net before, I didn't know who to give the check-in credit to.  Since Hugh checked into the net this week, I now know who to give the check-in credit to.  I want to welcome Hugh to the DAREN system and hope he can participate in the State Wide Net as often as possible.  Hugh's official first check-in date will be June 27, 2015.
