DAREN News, are articles and information about the Digital Amateur Radio
"Emergency" Network of WV, which operates on 145.69 MHz.  Anyone having any information about DAREN, or Amateur Radio in general, and would like to share it with others, may send it to WA8LLM @ PKBGWV on 145.69 MHz, or to my E-Mail: wa8llm@yahoo.com.  A State Wide DAREN NET is operated every Saturday from 7:00 pm to 10:00 pm, and lately, before and after those hours.  The DAREN Net Announcement, showing the MAIN NCS, ALTERNATE NCS, NODEs accessible to both, and the previous week's check-ins, are posted by Thursday on most of the Main county DAREN PBBS'.  The DAREN News can also be found on the wc8ec.com website.

Gene Roy, N8ER, sent me a message on Wednesday saying the Randolph County NODE/PBBS of RANDWV/ELKNWV was out of service.  He has notified Zane Hammack, WV8ZH, about the problem and will have to see if he can get the problem fixed. By the time you read this DAREN News, the station may be back on the air.

I've been busy getting things ready for Field Day.  Over the winter I worked on the new Wood County Emergency Communications trailer, installing radios and antennas.  I was able to get the trailer up on the hill at my house last September when the ground was dry and hard.  I knew it was going to be here until Field Day, but I didn't think we were going to get as much rain as we've got over the past couple of weeks.  Thursday after coming back from a meeting in Ripley, I decided I would give it a try to get the trailer off of my hill and take it to the Field Day site.  It took a little bit of time to get it off my hill because the driveway is three tenths of a mile long and lot of pot holes, but we made it.  A couple of hours after getting the trailer to the Field Day site, a severe Thunderstorm showed up, and I don't think it has quit raining since.  I'm going to be a busy this week since the WCEC group needs to set up a 24 by 80 canopy in Pleasants County on Thursday for a wedding on Saturday, and at the same time we need to set up a 24 by 40 canopy for use at Field Day.  I'll be glad when next Monday gets here, even though we will have to go to the wedding location and take down the canopy and then get ready for all of the other activities we have coming up.

There were only 35 check-ins to the State Wide DAREN Net this week.  Jim Woodford, KC8MLK, who has been participating in the State Wide DAREN Net since February 7, 2007, has completed 550 check-ins, and will be receiving his certificate.  The low check-ins to the net this week could be because the Randolph County NODE is off the air.
