DAREN News, are articles and information about the Digital Amateur Radio "Emergency" Network of WV, which operates on 145.69 MHz. Anyone having any information about DAREN, or Amateur Radio in general, and would like to share it with others, may send it to WA8LLM @ PKBGWV on 145.69 MHz, or to my E-Mail: wa8llm@yahoo.com. A State Wide DAREN NET is operated every Saturday from 7:00 pm to 10:00 pm, and lately, before and after those hours. The DAREN Net Announcement, showing the MAIN NCS, ALTERNATE NCS, NODEs accessible to both, and the previous week's check-ins, are posted by Thursday on most of the Main county DAREN PBBS'. The DAREN News can also be found on the wc8ec.com website.
Not much to report this week. I haven't heard from anyone about anything. Some of the stations that I've reported being down or hard to get into seem to be back in operation.
May plans for this week are to go to a business that has closed down and see what kind of equipment they are giving away. The business was a national calling center and clothing outlet, so with any luck there may be some kind of equipment that can be used in communications. We will be going to the outlet this coming Wednesday. We looked at some of the stuff they are giving away on Friday, and it looks promising. We have three trailers and several trucks lined up, in case we find enough material to haul away. I figure what we don't take will be hauled away to the land fill.
Don't forget the Dayton Hamfest will be this coming Friday, Saturday, and Sunday. Sammy Mercer, N8SVX, and I will be leaving Thursday night at about midnight to drive up to Dayton. We are only going to spend Friday going around the Flea Market, and then driving back home. We need to be back on Saturday to help provide the Safety Communications for the Chic-Fil-A Road Run that starts at 8:00am. We'll also be providing race clocks at each of the six Mile Markers around the race course. We used the clocks last month at the Vienna Fun Run, and several of the runners that I talked to after the race were happy to be able to see their running time as they past each Mile Marker.
That's all I have for now, if you have any activities that you would like to report on, let me know.
There were only 30 check-ins to the State Wide DAREN Net this week.
