DAREN News, are articles and information about the Digital Amateur Radio "Emergency" Network of WV, which operates on 145.69 MHz.  Anyone having any information about DAREN, or Amateur Radio in general, and would like to share it with others, may send it to WA8LLM @ PKBGWV on 145.69 MHz, or to my E-Mail: wa8llm@yahoo.com.  A State Wide DAREN NET is operated every Saturday from 7:00 pm to 10:00 pm, and lately, before and after those hours.  The DAREN Net Announcement, showing the MAIN NCS, ALTERNATE NCS, NODEs accessible to both, and the previous week's check-ins, are posted by Thursday on most of the Main county DAREN PBBS'.  The DAREN News can also be found on the wc8ec.com website.

I talked to Jerry Strum, KC8SIG, on the telephone today.  Jerry said that he noticed the Mineral County NODE/PBBS of MINEWV/KEYSWV was off the air again. He also let me know that he has some extra TNCs that he has available for anyone who might need or want them.  He is letting them go for $20 dollars each.  The TNCs that he has for sale are two Kantronics KPC-2, one Kantronics KAM Plus, one Kantronics KPC-4, and an AEA PK-96.  If you are interested in any, or all, of the TNCs, you can contact Jerry at: jerry_26276@hotmail.com Jerry and I also talked about trying to get additional Winlink 2000 Internet Access systems established in the state.

Not only was the Mineral County NODE/PBBS down, I was unable to connect to any of the Tucker County stations.  It may have been band conditions or the stations were damaged by the storms that went through the area the last couple of weeks.  I still need to get a station put together to take to Jackson County Saturday, just in case the problem with it is more than the transceiver being off frequency.

I missed out going to the Fayetteville Hamfest yesterday, but I had a great time at the Athens, Ohio, Hamfest today.  I bought a few things that I didn't think I could live without.  I'm planning to go to the Jackson County Hamfest in Ripley this coming Saturday, May 2nd.  Jackson County used to hold their Hamfest on Sundays, but this year they thought they would change it to Saturday.  I haven't been able to go to the Dayton Hamfest for a few years due to the Amateurs providing safety communications for the Chic-Fil-A Road Runs which are held on Saturday of Dayton Hamfest weekend.  But this year, I'm going to drive to Dayton late Thursday night, and spend all day Friday in the Flea Market.  Then come home so that I can help with the Road Race on Saturday, May 16th.  We will be using the racing time clocks that we build at the road race.

There were only 35 check-ins to the State Wide DAREN Net this week.  Opie Nutter, KC8ZBQ, needs only one more check-in to make 100.

That's all I have for this week.  I you have anything you will be doing, or have been doing, let me know and I'll put it here in the DAREN News.
