DAREN News, are articles and information about the Digital Amateur Radio "Emergency" Network of WV, which operates on 145.69 MHz.  Anyone having any information about DAREN, or Amateur Radio in general, and would like to share it with others, may send it to WA8LLM @ PKBGWV on 145.69 MHz, or to my E-Mail: wa8llm@yahoo.com.  A State Wide DAREN NET is operated every Saturday from 7:00 pm to 10:00 pm, and lately, before and after those hours.  The DAREN Net Announcement, showing the MAIN NCS, ALTERNATE NCS, NODEs accessible to both, and the previous week's check-ins, are posted by Thursday on most of the Main county DAREN PBBS'.  The DAREN News can also be found on the wc8ec.com website.

While posting the DAREN News and the Net Announcements around the state this past week, I found four more stations that seemed to be down.  I was unable to connect to the Tucker County NODE/PBBS' of TUCKWV/PRSNWV and TUCKES/PRSNES, the Tyler County NODE/PBBS of TYLEWV/MIDBWV, and the Jackson County NODE/PBBS of JACKWV/RPLYWV.  I knew I had to make a trip to Wetzel County to work on the NODE/PBBS of WETZWV/NMARWV, but now I have to make a trip to Jackson County.  I may hold off on the Jackson County station until I go to the Jackson County Hamfest which will be May 2nd in Ripley.  The NODE/PBBS isn't very far from the Hamfest location.  I have a feeling the transceiver may have went back to its default frequency of 145.000 MHz, like it has done the past few times that it was off the air.  I may try to connect to it from here at the house using the default frequency.

Several members of the Wood County Emergency Communications group had a great time yesterday helping with the Vienna River Road Run.  We have been building racing clocks which we placed at the five mile marker locations around the course.  The clocks allows the runners to see the race time as they approach the Mile Markers.

Don't forget a couple Hamfests this coming weekend.  One of the Hamfests will at Oakhill, WV, on Saturday, April 25, and the other one will be the Athens County, Ohio, Hamfest which will be this coming Sunday, April 26th, in Athens, Ohio.

There were only 33 check-ins to the State Wide DAREN Net this week.  Sammy Mercer, N8SVX, who has been participating in the net since October 14, 1995, has completed 250 check-ins and will be receiving his certificate.
