DAREN News, are articles and information about the Digital Amateur Radio "Emergency" Network of WV, which operates on 145.69 MHz. Anyone having any information about DAREN, or Amateur Radio in general, and would like to share it with others, may send it to WA8LLM @ PKBGWV on 145.69 MHz, or to my E-Mail: wa8llm@yahoo.com. A State Wide DAREN NET is operated every Saturday from 7:00 pm to 10:00 pm, and lately, before and after those hours. The DAREN Net Announcement, showing the MAIN NCS, ALTERNATE NCS, NODEs accessible to both, and the previous week's check-ins, are posted by Thursday on most of the Main county DAREN PBBS'. The DAREN News can also be found on the wc8ec.com website.
We were busy with three activities this weekend. On Friday evening several members of the Wood County Emergency Communications group were at the Chic-Fil- A Restaurant, in Vienna, helping with the Sprite Night event. Yesterday, six Volunteer Examiners: KC8DJJ, KC8HAI, KC8TUE, KC8TYU, KD8VLL, and I were at the Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints Church in Marietta, Ohio, presenting a one day Amateur Radio Technician Class license class, and administering exams. There were 16 people in the class, but only 12 of them passed their Technician exam. One person came to the exams to take his General Class license, which he passed. And, today I just got back home from being in the woods at Mountwood Park. Besides myself, there were 13 other Amateurs: KC8DJJ, KC8HAI, KC8OXY, KC8TUE, KC8TYU, KD8DLX, KD8GWP, KD8LLA, KD8QAK, KD8VLL, KD8WHM, KD8WHN, N8UFQ, who kept track of over 225 Mountain Bike racers as they raced over some of the trails at the park.
I got an E-Mail from Mike Snyder, KN8J, about an APRS E-Mail List, which I'll just add here in the DAREN News news:
We, Mike (KN8J) and Don (KE8NK) maintain the KE8NK-3 digipeater in Ritchie Co. We are contacting you because we are interested in maintaining an email list of local APRS network operators in order to keep APRS up and running. At various times, we notice outages and try to support them by turning on our I-GATE and monitor for the station to become operational again. However, some outages can be more difficult to diagnose, so it would be nice if we had a mutual way to report what situations were occurring. Additionally, we would be interested to know what resources, if any, may be needed to get a station back on the air because we may be able to share some resources and help. In short, if we could all maintain an email list and shoot a quick note to this local group when we experience a failure it would be benefit us all. Alternatively, if anyone in this group would email me, Mike (KN8J), I can maintain the list and make sure everyone is notified. I don't care how we do it just as long as we are all in the loop. We look forward to hearing from you about this. Please let us know you're "in" by replying to this email. If you have suggestions we would like to hear them. If you don't want to be emailed just let us know and we will stop. I would like to add Patrick (N8MIN) and Keith (N8KLD), but they do not list their email on QRZ.com. If anyone knows how we might contact them please let me know. Also, if you know of anyone you think should be added please let me know and I will add them. 73, Mike Snyder - KN8J An E-Mail for Mike is: snyderwithay@gmail.com
There were only 33 check-ins to the State Wide DAREN Net this week. Donnie Woodford, KC8YVR, who has been participating in the net since November, 27, 2004, has completed 500 check-ins and will be receiving her certificate. And Sammy Mercer, N8SVX, needs only 1 more check-in to make 250.
