DAREN News, are articles and information about the Digital Amateur Radio "Emergency" Network of WV, which operates on 145.69 MHz. Anyone having any information about DAREN, or Amateur Radio in general, and would like to share it with others, may send it to WA8LLM @ PKBGWV on 145.69 MHz, or to my E-Mail: wa8llm@yahoo.com. A State Wide DAREN NET is operated every Saturday from 7:00 pm to 10:00 pm, and lately, before and after those hours. The DAREN Net Announcement, showing the MAIN NCS, ALTERNATE NCS, NODEs accessible to both, and the previous week's check-ins, are posted by Thursday on most of the Main county DAREN PBBS'. Well, I hope everyone made it through the snow storm this week. We only got about 12 inches of snow, but the warm weather and rain after the storm took most of it by Sunday. I lost power for about 36 hours and had six big trees across my driveway. I was able to get the trees cut out of the way in enough time to make it to the groups Pancake Breakfast this morning. The turnout for the breakfast could have been better, but there was still some ice and snow on a few of the roads, and kept a lot of people home.
I didn't get this weeks news finished on Sunday, so I will add a little bit of sad news. I got a telephone call from Tom Cooper, WV8TOM, the Emergency Services Director of Tyler County. Tom wanted to let me know that Ray Gorrell, WV8RG, passed away at about 11:00am this morning (Monday). It was a surprise since Ray checked into the State Wide DAREN Net on Saturday. I going to miss Ray, since he used to make trips to some of the Wood County Emergency Communications activities, and I used to go to Tyler County to attend the club meetings that was held at Rays house.
The State Wide DAREN Net was pretty low this week. It may be down due to so many people in the state without power.
There were only 31 check-ins to the State Wide DAREN Net this week.
