DAREN News, are articles and information about the Digital Amateur Radio "Emergency" Network of WV, which operates on 145.69 MHz. Anyone having any information about DAREN, or Amateur Radio in general, and would like to share it with others, may send it to WA8LLM @ PKBGWV on 145.69 MHz, or to my E-Mail: wa8llm@yahoo.com. A State Wide DAREN NET is operated every Saturday from 7:00 pm to 10:00 pm, and lately, before and after those hours. The DAREN Net Announcement, showing the MAIN NCS, ALTERNATE NCS, NODEs accessible to both, and the previous week's check-ins, are posted by Thursday on most of the Main county DAREN PBBS'. The DAREN News can also be found on the wc8ec.com website.
Let's keep our fingers crossed the Groundhog doesn't see his shadow tomorrow morning. But, I don't know how he could help it, since they drag him out of his hole, where he is minding his own business, in front of a bunch of lights and cameras. Anyway you look at it, spring is only six weeks away.
Tim Davis, KC8TYK, said he got the Barbour County DAREN NODE/PBBS of BARBWV/PHILWV back in operation. He has been waiting for a cable to go between the Radio and the Terminal Node Controller. He said that Ron Wilson, K8RWW, donated a radio for the station, and the cable, he's been waiting for showed up Friday. He said he may have some antenna work to do this spring, but for now the station is up and running. Thanks Tim
I just got off the telephone with John Morris, WD8ROP, who wants to hold another Technician Class License class in April for about 10 members of the Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints Church in Marietta, Ohio. The WCEC VE group held a Technician class, and test session, on April 20th of last year at the same church where 16 people took the class, and 15 of them passed the test, and received their license. We also talked about hold a General Class License class somewhere around the last of May or first of June, before the General Class question pool is changed.
There were 48 check-ins to the State Wide DAREN Net this week. I want to welcome Tim Davis, KC8TYK, back to the DAREN system. Tim has been missing from the net since November 17, 2012. Tim who has been participating in the net since December 27, 2003, has also completed 200 check-ins and will be receiving his certificate. Lisa Hendershot, KB8UER, needs only one more check-in to make 1050. Keith Dobins, N8KLD, needs only one more check-in to make 100. I also want to welcome a new participant to the DAREN Net and that is Cody Stroud, K8NXE, from Elkins. I hope Cody can participate in the State Wide DAREN Net as often as possible.
