DAREN News, are articles and information about the Digital Amateur Radio "Emergency" Network of WV, which operates on 145.69 MHz.  Anyone having any information about DAREN, or Amateur Radio in general, and would like to share it with others, may send it to WA8LLM @ PKBGWV on 145.69 MHz, or to my E-Mail: wa8llm@yahoo.com.  A State Wide DAREN NET is operated every Saturday from 7:00 pm to 10:00 pm, and lately, before and after those hours.  The DAREN Net Announcement, showing the MAIN NCS, ALTERNATE NCS, NODEs accessible to both, and the previous week's check-ins, are posted by Thursday on most of the Main county DAREN PBBS'.  The DAREN News can also be found on the wc8ec.com website.

I hope everyone had a safe and Happy New Year.  I understand the weather is going to turn colder for awhile.  Now's the time to sit in the Ham Shack and make plans for the summer.

I've heard from one more Amateur who would like to get a DAREN NODE/PBBS station installed in his area.  He just doesn't know for sure where he will be able to install it.  We still have time before we try to apply for the grant, we just need to know where we want to put the stations, if we get the grant.

On Thursday evening, January 1st, at 7:00pm, I started transmitting the CW program for those wanting to learn Morse Code.  It was supposed to run for two hours, but the program I am using only lets it run for about an hour and a half.  I'm also not satisfied with the CW and Voice audio levels.  The Voice level is much lower then the CW.  Sammy Mercer, N8SVX, and I are working on the correction of the two problems.  When we are finished, the CW teaching tool may be transmitted 24 hours a day, and only be off the air for a short time on Sunday evenings and Tuesday evenings.  The CW transmissions are on the frequency of 145.63 MHz

The Plateau Amateur Radio Association is holding their 35th Annual Hamfest on Saturday, February 21st.  The location of the Hamfest is the Lewis Community Center, 469 Central Ave., Oak Hill, WV.  Contact PARA Hamfest, PO Box 96, Fayetteville, WV, 25840 or Jane Hardy, WV8JH, (304) 640-1120 or Charlie Hardy, WV8CH, (304) 640-4630.  Also check out the website: www.parawv.com

There were only 38 check-ins to the State Wide DAREN Net.  The net may have been low since it was the New Year holiday weekend.  Ray Hensley, KJ4MWQ, who has been participating in the net since August 27, 2011, has completed 100 check-ins and will be receiving his certificate.  John Peterson, K8ZPR, needs only one more check-in to make 1050.  If you have been waiting for a DAREN Net Participation Certificate, you should have it in your hands very shortly.  The certificates went in the mail on Friday, January 2nd.  If you don't have your certificate, let me know.
