DAREN News, are articles and information about the Digital Amateur Radio "Emergency" Network of WV, which operates on 145.69 MHz. Anyone having any information about DAREN, or Amateur Radio in general, and would like to share it with others, may send it to WA8LLM @ PKBGWV on 145.69 MHz, or to my E-Mail: wa8llm@yahoo.com. A State Wide DAREN NET is operated every Saturday from 7:00 pm to 10:00 pm, and lately, before and after those hours. The DAREN Net Announcement, showing the MAIN NCS, ALTERNATE NCS, NODEs accessible to both, and the previous week's check-ins, are posted by Thursday on most of the Main county DAREN PBBS'. The DAREN News can also be found on the wc8ec.org website.
Terry Mills, KC8TUE, said that he has the HF Transceiver, the 2 Meter Mobile, and the Handheld radios that will be used as the main prizes for the Wood County/Parkersburg Hamfest. He has also been receiving several items for door prizes to be given away. The Hamfest will be held on October 11th at the 4-H Camp in Minerals Wells. The 4-H Camp is on Butcher Bend Road, only about 5 miles from the Mineral Wells "Exit 170" of Interstate I-77, just south of Parkersburg. The cost of admittance for the Hamfest is $5.00. He said for those who will be bringing items to sale, and would like to have tables inside for displaying their goods, they are FREE, if they notify either Ken Harris, WA8LLM, or himself, at least a week in advance of the Hamfest. Most of the tables have electricity, also at no cost. At the door, the tables will cost $5.00. Dot Harris, KC8HAI, said that breakfast will be available at around 6:00 am. The ARRL WV State Convention Committee will be holding their October Meeting at the Hamfest at 11:00 am. There will also be W5YI Amateur Radio Exams held at the Hamfest. There will be people at the Hamfest location all night long for those who want to come early, or stay the night before. For more information about the Hamfest, check out the Wood County Emergency Communications website at: www.wc8ec.org
Not much else to report this week. Most of the normal DAREN NODE/PBBS stations seem to be operating okay. Now would be the time to get any additional stations on the air before the weather starting getting bad, and we're not able to make it to the tower sites without 4 Wheel Drive.
If anyone has anything to report let me know so that I can pass it on to others who might be reading the DAREN News.
