DAREN News, are articles and information about the Digital Amateur Radio "Emergency" Network of WV, which operates on 145.69 MHz. Anyone having any information about DAREN, or Amateur Radio in general, and would like to share it with others, may send it to WA8LLM @ PKBGWV on 145.69 MHz, or to my E-Mail: email@example.com. A State Wide DAREN NET is operated every Saturday from 7:00 pm to 10:00 pm, and lately, before and after those hours. The DAREN Net Announcement, showing the MAIN NCS, ALTERNATE NCS, NODEs accessible to both, and the previous week's check-ins, are posted by Thursday on most of the Main county DAREN PBBS'. The DAREN News can also be found on the wc8ec.org website.
I got an E-Mail from Jerry Sturm, KC8SIG, who said that he has his KC8SIG-10 Winlink Internet access system back in operation. It's now operating on Windows 7. Access to the Winlink system is available through the TUCKES DAREN NODE. Jerry says he is also able to operate Pactor 3 on the HF Bands.
Well, it's that time of the year again, the Volcano Days festival will be held next weekend. Volcano Days celebrates the days when Oil Boom and Drilling was a big event in the city of Volcano. The festival has lots of activities and brings old oil drilling equipment such as the one cylinder engines used in cable systems for pumping wells. The festival is held at Mountwood Park about 15 miles East of Parkersburg on Route 50. Wood County Emergency Communications will be operating the BINGO games, as a fund racier at the festival. The festival will start at about 5:00 pm on Friday, and be over at about 5:00 pm on Sunday. At one time the group held a Special Event Station at the festival, but it didn't go very well, so they no longer do it.
There were 40 check-ins to the State Wide DAREN Net again this week. Gene Roy, N8ER, needs only one more check-in to make 1100. Anna Hendershot, KC8JWW, needs only one more check-in to make 850. And, Krista Mills, KC8VLJ, needs only one more check-in to make 550. I'll be glad when things start to settle down, and I can get into printing off the certificates for those who have been waiting for them.
