DAREN News, are articles and information about the Digital Amateur Radio "Emergency" Network of WV, which operates on 145.69 MHz.  Anyone having any information about DAREN, or Amateur Radio in general, and would like to share it with others, may send it to WA8LLM @ PKBGWV on 145.69 MHz, or to my E-Mail: wa8llm@yahoo.com.  A State Wide DAREN NET is operated every Saturday from 7:00 pm to 10:00 pm, and lately, before and after those hours.  The DAREN Net Announcement, showing the MAIN NCS, ALTERNATE NCS, NODEs accessible to both, and the previous week's check-ins, are posted by Thursday on most of the Main county DAREN PBBS'.  The DAREN News can also be found on the wc8ec.org website.

Well, we did get some severe weather this past week.  A high wind storm went through Wood County, and right through the middle of Parkersburg.  There was a lot of damage with a lot of trees down, some of them on houses and cars.  There was a couple of reports that some people were trapped in their cars until they could be rescued.  The Parkersburg City Park took a lot of wind damage, blowing over several trees.  The Park had to be closed for a couple of days while the city workers got the trees cut up and taken away.  I lost power here at my house, but it wasn't from any damage near here.  It was several miles away. The power was off here for almost 24 hours.  Some people lost their power for two or three days.  I got a telephone call from Miller Communications telling me they had lost a 150 foot tower in Calhoun County.  I don't know if the DAREN NODE was on that tower or not, since that station has been down for several months.  They wanted to know if I would like to go to Calhoun County and help clean up the mess, so I'm just waiting to see if they call me back.

It was great to see the Mineral County NODE/PBBS of MINEWV/KEYSWV back in operation.  There were several stations that weren't able to get into the State Wide DAREN Net while it was down.

That's all I have for this week, if you have anything, let me know.

There were 43 check-ins to the State Wide DAREN Net this week.  Daniel Ritchie, KC8ZLK, who's been participating in the net since June 24, 2006, has completed 400 check-ins, and will be receiving his certificate.  Melvin Shiflett, KD8OWG, needs only one more check-in to make 150.
