DAREN News, are articles and information about the Digital Amateur Radio "Emergency" Network of WV, which operates on 145.69 MHz. Anyone having any information about DAREN, or Amateur Radio in general, and would like to share it with others, may send it to WA8LLM @ PKBGWV on 145.69 MHz, or to my E-Mail: wa8llm@yahoo.com. A State Wide DAREN NET is operated every Saturday from 7:00 pm to 10:00 pm, and lately, before and after those hours. The DAREN Net Announcement, showing the MAIN NCS, ALTERNATE NCS, NODEs accessible to both, and the previous week's check-ins, are posted by Thursday on most of the Main county DAREN PBBS'. The DAREN News can also be found on the wc8ec.org website.
Well, I didn't to go to Tyler County last week, so I didn't make it to the Wetzel County NODE/PBBS of WETZWV/NMARWV. We are still planning to make the trip to Tyler County, and Wetzel County, when Tom Cooper, WV8TOM, can schedule a meeting with an Amateur from Pocahontas County, who was supposed to be in Tyler County last week.
I got a message from Gene Roy, N8ER. Gene let me know the Mineral County NODE/PBBS of MINEWV/KEYSWV was back in operation. He didn't give me any idea what the problem was, but as long as it is back in operation, that's all that counts.
It looks like we are going to start getting severe weather in the next few days. I just hope we don't lose any more of the DAREN NODEs.
If you haven't sent your Field Day Report in, you've still got a few days. I have to go over all the records to make sure we get all the points I can. It seemed like the bands were down on Saturday, and our group missed out on a lot on contacts. Even though we don't go for a top score, it still looks good that you're not on the bottom of your class.
I can't think of anything to rattle on about, so I'll just get this thing posted around the state. If you have anything to pass on to the others who read the DAREN News, sent it to me, and I'll put it in here.
Thanks for supporting the DAREN system.
There were 43 check-ins to the State Wide DAREN Net this week. Jim Woodford, KC8MLK, who's been participating in the net since February 7, 2004, has completed 500 check-ins, and will be receiving his certificate. Daniel Ritchie, KC8ZLK, needs only one more check-in to make 400.
