DAREN News, are articles and information about the Digital Amateur Radio "Emergency" Network of WV, which operates on 145.69 MHz.  Anyone having any information about DAREN, or Amateur Radio in general, and would like to share it with others, may send it to WA8LLM @ PKBGWV on 145.69 MHz, or to my E-Mail: wa8llm@yahoo.com.  A State Wide DAREN NET is operated every Saturday from 7:00 pm to 10:00 pm, and lately, before and after those hours.  The DAREN Net Announcement, showing the MAIN NCS, ALTERNATE NCS, NODEs accessible to both, and the previous week's check-ins, are posted by Thursday on most of the Main county DAREN PBBS'.  The DAREN News can also be found on the wc8ec.org website.

The News is a little getting started today.  I was busy helping with the Challenge at Mountwood Mountain Bike Race.  It was a great race, there were over 150 Mountain Bike Racer on the course.  There were at least 20 Amateur Radio operators who provided the safety communications for the race.  As a last minute thought, I got the Wood County Emergency Communications UHF repeater placed on the Miller Communications Tower which is located near the park so there would be reliable communications over the 25 mile, plus, course.  The repeater did a great job.  There were no injuries, as they have been in the past.  It was a great day for the race with no rain or cold weather.

I finally got the State Wide DAREN Net Check-in Certificates mailed out to all of those who have been waiting.  Every week that went by, I just got that much farther behind.  If you have been waiting for a certificate, and you didn't get it by the time you read this News, let me know.  I want to make sure that everyone who is supporting the DAREN system, and the NET, get all the credit they deserve.  I want to thank everyone for supporting the DAREN system.

My Nephew Sammy, N8SVX, and I are still working on the new HSMM-MESS 2.4 GHz system.  We have been locating towers where the NODEs can be placed and should be able to talk to each other.  We have enough equipment to stating putting it in operations now that the weather is getting better.

There were 48 check-ins to the State Wide DAREN Net this week.  Donnie Woodford, KC8YVR, who has been participating in the State Wide DAREN Net since November 27, 2004, has completed 450 check-ins, and will be receiving her certificate.

That's all I have for this week.  If there is anything you want placed in the DAREN News send me a message or and E-Mail.
