DAREN News, are articles and information about the Digital Amateur Radio "Emergency" Network of WV, which operates on 145.69 MHz.  Anyone having any information about DAREN, or Amateur Radio in general, and would like to share it with others, may send it to WA8LLM @ PKBGWV on 145.69 MHz, or to my E-Mail: wa8llm@yahoo.com.  A State Wide DAREN NET is operated every Saturday from 7:00 pm to 10:00 pm, and lately, before and after those hours.  The DAREN Net Announcement, showing the MAIN NCS, ALTERNATE NCS, NODEs accessible to both, and the previous week's check-ins, are posted by Thursday on most of the Main county DAREN PBBS'.  The DAREN News can also be found on the wc8ec.org website.

I got an E-Mail from Tom White, W3JTW, about his new Terminal Node Controller (TNC).  Tom was having trouble with his old TNC, which was not letting him see what he was receiving.  Tom said he ordered the TNC one day, and it was delivered the next day.  He has to learn Packet all over.  He used to use have an AEA TNC and using a PAKRATT program.  He is now starting to use the TNC program that came with the new Kantronics KPC3 Plus, called PACTERM.  He said that he had to call Kantronics to get help setting it up.  Tom said the gentleman who he talked with was very nice and helpful.  He's going to see how it works on the State Wide DAREN Net next week.

I also got an E-Mail from Gene Roy, N8ER, who said that he didn't know what was wrong with the Randolph County NODE/PBBS of RANDWV/ELKNWV last week.  He said the station has battery backup.  Gene said the station is located at the Hammacks Communications tower site, which is a big site near Elkins.  When he contacted Zane Hammack, WV8ZH, who owns the site, about the station, he went to the site the next day and fixed the problem.  I want to thank Gene and Zane for getting the station back in operation.  The Randolph County NODE/PBBS is a very important station in the DAREN system.

There were 48 check-ins to the State Wide DAREN Net this week.  Opie Nutter, KC8ZBQ, who has been participating in the net, on and off since February 17, 2007, has completed 50 check-ins, and will be getting his certificate.  Lisa Hendershot, KB8UER, needs only one more check-in to make 1000.  And, Ken Butler, WA8TOX, needs only one more check-in to make 250.
