DAREN News, are articles and information about the Digital Amateur Radio "Emergency" Network of WV, which operates on 145.69 MHz.  Anyone having any information about DAREN, or Amateur Radio in general, and would like to share it with others, may send it to WA8LLM @ PKBGWV on 145.69 MHz, or to my E-Mail: wa8llm@yahoo.com.  A State Wide DAREN NET is operated every Saturday from 7:00 pm to 10:00 pm, and lately, before and after those hours.  The DAREN Net Announcement, showing the MAIN NCS, ALTERNATE NCS, NODEs accessible to both, and the previous week's check-ins, are posted by Thursday on most of the Main county DAREN PBBS'.  The DAREN News can also be found on the wc8ec.org website.

I got an E-Mail from Roy Humes, N8RH, this week who gave me an idea of who might have been checking into the State Wide DAREN Net the past few weeks with the callsign of "CALL".  I went back and checked the records and verified his findings.  It turns out that Roy was correct.  The station who has been checking in now has his check-in records updated.  I want to thank Roy for his help getting the problem corrected.  Roy also suggested that after you check into the net, or anytime your making connections on Packet, that you go back to some of the NODEs you went through, and see if you callsign shows up.  If it doesn't, you might want to make sure the callsign in you TNC is correct.  It happens from time-to-time and I just want to make sure that you get credit for participating in the State Wide DAREN Net.  It's really best to check the callsign in your TNC before you start making any connections, but that doesn't happen very much, and I'm just as bad.  I change the callsign in my TNC several times a week doing different packet nets, and I make mistakes too.

Well, it's only three days until Christmas.  I hope you have your wish list sent to Santa Clause and that you get what you want.  I want to wish every one a Very Merry, and safe, Christmas.

There were 49 check-ins to the State Wide DAREN Net this week.  Ray Gorrell, WV8RG, who's been participating in the net since December 25, 1993, has completed 1000 check-ins and will be receiving his certificate.  With the Christmas and New Year holidays over shortly, I can get back into catching up with the DAREN Net Check-in Certificates.
