DAREN News, are articles and information about the Digital Amateur Radio "Emergency" Network of WV, which operates on 145.69 MHz.  Anyone having any information about DAREN, or Amateur Radio in general, and would like to share it with others, may send it to WA8LLM @ PKBGWV on 145.69 MHz, or to my E-Mail: wa8llm@yahoo.com.  A State Wide DAREN NET is operated every Saturday from 7:00 pm to 10:00 pm, and lately, before and after those hours.  The DAREN Net Announcement, showing the MAIN NCS, ALTERNATE NCS, NODEs accessible to both, and the previous week's check-ins, are posted by Thursday on most of the Main county DAREN PBBS'.  The DAREN News can also be found on the wc8ec.org website.

I hope everyone had a good Thanksgiving, and didn't eat too much.

Shaun Neidlinger, KB3CXQ, wanted to let me know that he has volunteered to perform the duties as the new SYSOP of Preston County NODE/PBBS of PRESWV/KINGWV.  He says the station has been without an official System Operator for quite some time since the previous SYSOP become a silent key. He said there are still some pending issues that need addressed.  Shaun said the issues will need to be done when nicer weather comes back there on their mountain.  There are some problems with the antenna system and adjustments that will need to be made to attain proper SWR.  Shaun has already made some changes in the building and to some of station programming.  He said the station seems to be operating very good, but believes it can be better once he gets the antenna situation straightened out.  Before the antenna issues can be addressed, Shaun needs to find someone to climb the tower to check on the connections.  He thinks that something may have come loose.  I want to thank Shaun for helping to keep the station on the air.

I noticed last week that I wasn't able to connect to the Roane County NODE/PBBS of ROANWV/SPNCWV.  I need to change out a power supply on another radio system at the same tower site, and will check on the DAREN station while I'm there.

That's all I have for this week.  If you have anything you want to pass on to others, let me know, and we'll put it here in the News.

There were 52 check-ins to the State Wide DAREN Net this week.  Julie Paugh, KB3URS, who's been participating in the net since November 24, 2012, has completed 50 check-ins, and will be receiving her certificate.  At about 2:30 pm on Friday, someone checked into the net with the callsign of "CALL". If one don't see your call on this week's State Wide Net Announcement, and think it may have been you, let me know so that I can update you check-in records.
