DAREN News, are articles and information about the Digital Amateur Radio "Emergency" Network of WV, which operates on 145.69 MHz. Anyone having any information about DAREN, or Amateur Radio in general, and would like to share it with others, may send it to WA8LLM @ PKBGWV on 145.69 MHz, or to my E-Mail: wa8llm@yahoo.com. A State Wide DAREN NET is operated every Saturday from 7:00 pm to 10:00 pm, and lately, before and after those hours. The DAREN Net Announcement, showing the MAIN NCS, ALTERNATE NCS, NODEs accessible to both, and the previous week's check-ins, are posted by Thursday on most of the Main county DAREN PBBS'. The DAREN News can also be found on the wc8ec.org website.
Not much news again this week. I'm going to be busy this coming week. On Wednesday I'll be going to Tyler County to help Tom Cooper, WV8TOM, who is the Emergency Services Director, install a Wi-Fi link between the Office of Emergency Services, and a broadcast tower site. The link will be used when the Office of Emergency Services needs to broadcast information concerning public safety to the citizens of Tyler County. He will be able to access the broadcast system from any place that has Internet service.
After thinking about the antenna of the Jackson County DAREN station being moved from one tower to another, I had a better idea. Since the antenna and transmission line have been there for several years, I thought it would be better replace both items. I have put together a new antenna and transmission line and going to take it to the tower site. When the tower contractor gets ready to work on the tower again, he won't have to remove the old antenna and transmission line. All he will have to do is install the new equipment. So sometime this week I will take the new equipment to the tower site and have it ready.
Another reason the week is going to be busy for me is that the Wood County Emergency Communications group will be putting up their 24 by 40 foot canopies for the High School/Middle School Cross County foot races on Thursday, and then set them up again on Friday for a wedding on Saturday. Since I'm the one who gets to transport the canopies, I'm going to be busy Thursday, Friday, and Saturday. On Sunday we get to take the canopies down and take them to another activity the following week.
Some how I missed a check-in from Jeffrey Hensley, WD4VA, on the September 28, State Wide DAREN Net. I have his participation records updated. If at any time you think your check-in to the net is wrong, please let me know. I want to make sure everyone gets the credit they deserve. The State Wide DAREN Net is helping the DAREN system stay active.
There were 46 check-ins to the State Wide DAREN Net this week. Tricia Magyarosi, KC8VLI, who has been participating in the net since December 28, 2002, has completed 500 check-ins, and will be getting her certificate.
