DAREN News, are articles and information about the Digital Amateur Radio "Emergency" Network of WV, which operates on 145.69 MHz. Anyone having any information about DAREN, or Amateur Radio in general, and would like to share it with others, may send it to WA8LLM @ PKBGWV on 145.69 MHz, or to my E-Mail: wa8llm@yahoo.com. A State Wide DAREN NET is operated every Saturday from 7:00 pm to 10:00 pm, and lately, before and after those hours. The DAREN Net Announcement, showing the MAIN NCS, ALTERNATE NCS, NODEs accessible to both, and the previous week's check-ins, are posted by Thursday on most of the Main county DAREN PBBS'. The DAREN News can also be found on the wc8ec.org website.
Not much news this week. Sammy Mercer, N8SVX, said he was not able to connect into the Chat Room of CHATRM. I tried to connect into it myself, and was unable. The problem may be with the TNC. The Chat Room TNC is connected in Parallel with the Ritchie County NODE/PBBS of RITCWV/HRVLWV, and they seem to be working okay. I think the last time we had this problem; all I did was turn the TNC off, and then back on. It looks like I need to make a trip to the tower site.
While trying to post the DAREN News and Net Announcement last week, I found that I was unable to connect to the Jackson County NODE/PBBS of JACKWV/RPLYWV. I received an E-Mail a couple weeks ago about the tower which has the antenna on it. The state has installed a new 300 foot tower beside the older Jackson County tower. All of the antennas on the older tower are supposed to be installed on the new one. They said that I need to get ready on a one day notice to have the DAREN antenna ready to move. I have never heard any more about the move. It's possible they may have already taken the old tower down. It looks like I have to make a trip to Jackson County too.
There were 45 check-ins to the State Wide DAREN Net this week. Frank Hughes, WD8DEP, needs only one more check-in to make 400. One station checked into the net with the callsign of "CALL". The station checked in on Friday evening around 10:04 pm. If you checked into the net around that time, and don't see your call on this week's Net Announcement, let me know so that I can give your credit for participating in the net. No one will know who it was, that stuff happens from time-to-time. I just want to make sure everyone gets the credit they deserve.
