DAREN News, are articles and information about the Digital Amateur Radio "Emergency" Network of WV, which operates on 145.69 MHz. Anyone having any information about DAREN, or Amateur Radio in general, and would like to share it with others, may send it to WA8LLM @ PKBGWV on 145.69 MHz, or to my E-Mail: wa8llm@yahoo.com. A State Wide DAREN NET is operated every Saturday from 7:00 pm to 10:00 pm, and lately, before and after those hours. The DAREN Net Announcement, showing the MAIN NCS, ALTERNATE NCS, NODEs accessible to both, and the previous week's check-ins, are posted by Thursday on most of the Main county DAREN PBBS'. The DAREN News can also be found on the wc8ec.org website.
The Wood County Emergency Communications group is going to be busy this coming week. Even though they said they weren't interested in operating the BINGO games at the WV Interstate Fair and Exposition in Wood County this year, the Fair Board members contacted them. It seems that after a year’s notice, they are unable to find an organization who is able to set up and operate the BINGO games without a large overhead expense. The Fair Board made an offer the Communications group couldn't turn down. Now we have to get everything ready for the fair.
Not much news this week, everything seems to be quiet. We finished up the BINGO games at the West Virginia Interstate Fair and Exposition Saturday night and brought all the equipment home except for the canopy frame, we went back to the fairgrounds this morning and brought. The weather this past week did not help us at the fair. There were high temperatures most of the week and two days it rained cats and dogs.
I'll be busy all this week. I have a Local Emergency Planning Committee (LEPC) meeting in Ritchie County on Tuesday and an LEPC meeting in Roane County on Wednesday. Then on Thursday I will be attending a School Safety meeting in Pleasants County, then go to Tyler County to take a re-certification test on Project Lifesaver. After the re-certification, be going back to Pleasants County to attend the Pleasants County LEPC meeting. If I can find some time, I'm going to try to get my grass cut, it is getting away from me. I still need to work on getting the State Wide DAREN Net Check-in certificates printed up for those who are waiting. I hope we have better weather this coming week.
There were only 41 check-ins to the State Wide DAREN Net this week. Jim Woodford, KC8MLK, who's been participating in the net since February 7, 2004, has completed 450 check-ins, and will be receiving his certificate.
