DAREN News, are articles and information about the Digital Amateur Radio "Emergency" Network of WV, which operates on 145.69 MHz. Anyone having any information about DAREN, or Amateur Radio in general, and would like to share it with others, may send it to WA8LLM @ PKBGWV on 145.69 MHz, or to my E-Mail: wa8llm@yahoo.com. A State Wide DAREN NET is operated every Saturday from 7:00 pm to 10:00 pm, and lately, before and after those hours. The DAREN Net Announcement, showing the MAIN NCS, ALTERNATE NCS, NODEs accessible to both, and the previous week's check-ins, are posted by Thursday on most of the Main county DAREN PBBS'. The DAREN News can also be found on the wc8ec.org website.
It looks like another quiet week. I haven't heard much from anyone. With the weather turning warmer, I figure everyone is starting to be outside trying to get caught up from the long winter. I did get the State Wide DAREN Net Check- In Certificates mailed out. By now those who have been waiting for their certificates should have them in their hands. If you have been waiting for a certificate, and don't have it, let me know.
There was a Hamfest in Athens, OH, today which I was able to attend. The day started with rain, but by about 10:00 am the rain quit and some of the vendors started setting up outside in the parking lot. I'm glad there were vendors outside, since one of them had an MFJ-1278 Multimode TNC, which I got at a good price. I haven't had a chance to see if it's any good, but for the price, I couldn't go too far wrong. There's a Hamfest in Ripley, Jackson County, this coming Sunday, May 5th. The location will be at the Ripley Middle School. I hope to see some of the DAREN users there.
I got an E-Mail from Greg Day, N8GD, from Wintersville, OH. Greg is planning on installing a NODE/PBBS in Jefferson County, OH. He already has the equipment which includes a Kantronics KPC-3. He is hoping to have the station in operation in the next few weeks. He says the NODE will be JEFFOH, and the PBBS will be STEUOH, since it's close to Steubenville, OH. I need to get him a copy of the commands, and I'm hoping to get him a copy of the DAREN Plan. With any luck we will be seeing a new station on the air shortly.
If you have any activities coming up let me know about them so we can pass it on. Others may be interested in what is happening in your area. That's all I have for this week.
There were 44 check-ins to the State Wide DAREN Net this week.
