DAREN News, are articles and information about the Digital Amateur Radio "Emergency" Network of WV, which operates on 145.69 MHz.  Anyone having any information about DAREN, or Amateur Radio in general, and would like to share it with others, may send it to WA8LLM @ PKBGWV on 145.69 MHz, or to my E-Mail: wa8llm@yahoo.com.  A State Wide DAREN NET is operated every Saturday from 7:00 pm to 10:00 pm, and lately, before and after those hours.  The DAREN Net Announcement, showing the MAIN NCS, ALTERNATE NCS, NODEs accessible to both, and the previous week's check-ins, are posted by Thursday on most of the Main county DAREN PBBS'.  The DAREN News can also be found on the wc8ec.org website.

Not much news this week.  I've been working on a couple projects, one of which is looking at some of the old commercial Low Band radios that I have stored away.  Once I check to see if any of them are okay, I'll need to order crystals to put them on the 6 Meter packet frequency.

I think I found a way to get to the central part of the state that we lost when the Mineral County NODE of MINEWV went down.  There seems to be a path from the Tucker County NODE of TUCKER to the Pendleton County NODE of PENDWV.  Last week I was able to post the DAREN News and Net Announcement without much trouble.

I think I may be having a problem with the Wirt County NODE/PBBS of WIRTWV/ELIZWV.  I haven't been able to connect to it direct from the house like I used to.  Then when I try to connect to it from the Wood County NODE of WOODWV, or the Ritchie County NODE of RITCWV, both of which should have a very good path, it takes several tries to get connected.  I guess I'm just going to have to take a full day and make my rounds to each of the sites and correct the problems.

For anyone interested, the Wood County Emergency Communications group is going to be holding a One Day General Class Amateur Radio class on Saturday, April 13th.  The class will start at about 12:00 noon and should be finished to do testing at it's normal W5YI VE Testing exam at 6:00 pm.  If you know of anyone who might want to try for their General Class license let them know.  The class and testing will be held at the Mid-Ohio Valley Health Department, 211 6th Street, Parkersburg.

There were 46 check-ins to the State Wide DAREN Net this week.  Lisa Hendershot, KB8UER, needs only one more check-in to make 950.  Jeremie Hamilton, KB3UMW, needs only one more check-in to make 100.  I didn't get a chance to work on the certificates like I was hoping.  I had to get everything ready for the Wood County Emergency Communications meeting, which is on Tuesday.
