DAREN News, are articles and information about the Digital Amateur Radio "Emergency" Network of WV, which operates on 145.69 MHz.  Anyone having any information about DAREN, or Amateur Radio in general, and would like to share it with others, may send it to WA8LLM @ PKBGWV on 145.69 MHz, or to my E-Mail: wa8llm@yahoo.com.  A State Wide DAREN NET is operated every Saturday from 7:00 pm to 10:00 pm, and lately, before and after those hours.  The DAREN Net Announcement, showing the MAIN NCS, ALTERNATE NCS, NODEs accessible to both, and the previous week's check-ins, are posted by Thursday on most of the Main county DAREN PBBS'.  The DAREN News can also be found on the wc8ec.org website.

The trip I had planned to take to Roane County to work on the NODE/PBBS of ROANWV/SPNCWV didn't happen.  I'm still planning on the trip as soon as i can. In the mean time we still have the Wirt County NODE/PBBS of WIRTWV/ELIZWV and the Calhoun County NODE/PBBS of CALHWV/GRNTWV that will cover some of the Roane County area.

I got an E-Mail from Roy Humes, N8RH, about the Hancock County NODE/PBBS of HANCWV/WEIRWV.  He says that it has been down for a couple of weeks.  He is trying to gain access to the tower site where it is located, but having no luck.  The door access code that he has doesn't seem to be letting him in to check out the station.

The 22 people who took the Technician Class cram course and passed their test in Parkersburg, on January 24th, were granted their licenses on February 8th. Some of those getting their licenses have already asked about Packet Radio. With any luck we will start to see them on here.

That's all I have for this week.  Things are kind of slow.

There were 52 check-ins to the State Wide DAREN Net this week.  Keith Dobbins, KC8RFW, who's been participating in the net since May 3, 2008, and Earl Cutlip, KB8FHW, who's been participating in the net since August 3, 1996, have both completed 50 check-ins.  Judy Peterson, N8UFQ, needs only one more check-in to make 1050.  There was one new check-in to the net this week, and that was Jim Mossor, KD8AMN, from Pennsboro.  Jim has been operating other digital modes using soundcard programs, and thought he would give Packet a try.  Jim says it's a learning experience.  I want to welcome Jim to the DAREN system, and hope he checks into the net as often as possible.
