DAREN News, are articles and information about the Digital Amateur Radio "Emergency" Network of WV, which operates on 145.69 MHz.  Anyone having any information about DAREN, or Amateur Radio in general, and would like to share it with others, may send it to WA8LLM @ PKBGWV on 145.69 MHz, or to my E-Mail: wa8llm@yahoo.com.  A State Wide DAREN NET is operated every Saturday from 7:00 pm to 10:00 pm, and lately, before and after those hours.  The DAREN Net Announcement, showing the MAIN NCS, ALTERNATE NCS, NODEs accessible to both, and the previous week's check-ins, are posted by Thursday on most of the Main county DAREN PBBS'.  The DAREN News can also be found on the wc8ec.org website.

It's been a busy time for me this past week.  I've been preparing all of the equipment that is going to be used in the Regional Hospital exercise on Thursday, December 6th.  Our communications group will be providing a portable telephone system that will be used in the exercise command post.  This will be the first time the telephone system will actually be hooked to cellphones which will provide the real world telephone service.  It's also planned to operate as much of the exercise communications using Packet Radio through the X-1J4 software chatroom of CHATRM, located at the same tower site as the Ritchie County DAREN NODE/PBBS of RITCWV/HRVLWV.  The communications that can't be handled on Packet Radio will be passed using voice communications on Amateur Radio, Public Safety Radio, and Business Radio systems.  Plans are to have at least two Amateur Radio operators at each of the hospitals and several operators at the exercise command post.  We are hoping to have at least one radio path using Amateur Radio, and as many as three or four paths using all radio systems.

There will be W5YI VE Testing coming up on December 8th.  The testing will be held at the Mid-Ohio Valley Health Department, 211 6th Street, in Parkersburg. The time of the testing will be at 6:00 pm.  Also on Thursday, December 24th there will be a one-day Amateur Radio Technician class held at the Mid-Ohio Valley Health Department.  The starting time of the class will be 9:00 am, with W5YI VE Testing following the class.  If you know of anyone who wants to take the class, tell them to let me know so we can save them a seat.  The class will be limited to 30 students.

That's the only news that I have for this week.  If anyone has any information they would like to pass on to others, drop me a line and tell me what it is.

There were 48 check-ins to the State Wide DAREN Net this week.  Gladys Gorrell, KC8GIZ, needs only one more check-ins to make 800.
