DAREN News, are articles and information about the Digital Amateur Radio "Emergency" Network of WV, which operates on 145.69 MHz.  Anyone having any information about DAREN, or Amateur Radio in general, and would like to share it with others, may send it to WA8LLM @ PKBGWV on 145.69 MHz, or to my E-Mail: wa8llm@yahoo.com.  A State Wide DAREN NET is operated every Saturday from 7:00 pm to 10:00 pm, and lately, before and after those hours.  The DAREN Net Announcement, showing the MAIN NCS, ALTERNATE NCS, NODEs accessible to both, and the previous week's check-ins, are posted by Thursday on most of the Main county DAREN PBBS'.  The DAREN News can also be found on the wc8ec.org website.

Well, I finally got the DAREN Check-in Certificates printed up.  With the cold, wet weather, I couldn't do much outside, so I started getting the information together and printing up the certificates.  I need to get the addresses and print up the labels.  If I get everything ready to go, I will try to get them mailed out on Thursday when I go to town.  I want to thank everyone who has been checking into the net and been patient on waiting for their certificate. Summer time is a busy time for me and our communications group, so I get a little bit behind.

With the coming Hurricane Sandy, and the forecasts of high winds, rain, and snow even in West Virginia, now is the time to start making sure your Amateur Radio stations, both voice and packet are ready to go.  Be sure that you have plenty of gasoline for your generator, if you have one.  From the sounds of it, the weather is going to start getting bad Monday and Tuesday.  This will be just a practice run for winter, which will be coming soon enough.  Don't forget that Daylight Savings Time ends next weekend and it starts getting dark earlier.  If we get the weather like they say, it will seem like winter is already here.

Not much else this week.  I'm trying to contact Amateurs who wants to help with the Regional Hospital Exercise on December 6th.  I need to get Amateurs to work at each of the hospitals in the region.  The hospitals that will participating in the drill are: Mini Hamilton in Calhoun County, Roane General in Roane County, Jackson General in Jackson County, Sistersville General in Tyler County, and Camden Clark and St. Joseph in Wood County.  If you are in any of those areas and you want to help provide the communications for the hospitals, let me know so we can get plans together on how to make it all work.  Now is the time to show the hospitals, public safety, and the public what Amateur Radio can do.

There were 47 check-ins again to the State Wide DAREN Net this week.  Gene Roy, N8ER, who's been participating in the net since May 1, 1993, has completed 1000 check-ins.  Anna Hendershot, KC8JWW, who's been participating in the net since May 9, 1998, has completed 750 check-ins.  Shaun Neidlinger, KB3CXQ, who's been participating in the net since December 26, 2009, has completed 100 check-ins. And, Tiffany Cutlip, KC8PNI, who's been participating in the net since December 9, 2000, has completed 50 check-ins.  All of these operators will be receiving their certificates.  Tricia Magyarosi, KC8VLI, needs only one more check-in to make 450.
