DAREN News, are articles and information about the Digital Amateur Radio "Emergency" Network of WV, which operates on 145.69 MHz.  Anyone having any information about DAREN, or Amateur Radio in general, and would like to share it with others, may send it to WA8LLM @ PKBGWV on 145.69 MHz, or to my E-Mail: wa8llm@yahoo.com.  A State Wide DAREN NET is operated every Saturday from 7:00 pm to 10:00 pm, and lately, before and after those hours.  The DAREN Net Announcement, showing the MAIN NCS, ALTERNATE NCS, NODEs accessible to both, and the previous week's check-ins, are posted by Thursday on most of the Main county DAREN PBBS'.  The DAREN News can also be found on the wc8ec.org website.

Winter is getting closer and there are still several NODE/PBBSs that are off the air.  Before the weather conditions prevents us from getting to the tower sites, we need to try to find out if we can get them back on the air.  I need to get the Chat Room NODE "CHATRM" back in operation.  It went off the air during the wind storm on June 29th, and I didn't have time to work on it when the Ritchie County NODE/PBBS of RITCWV/HRVLWV was off the air.  The TNCs of both stations use the same transceiver, so the problem has to be in the TNC.  I would like to get the Chat Room working since there is a large disaster drill coming up on December 5th, and I would like to use it to communicate between all, or most of the stations.  The exercise will involve hospitals, health departments, Emergency Operation Centers, and other health care facilities in six counties.  One of the operations for the exercise is to test primary and back-up communications between all of the facilities.

There were 52 check-ins to the State Wide DAREN Net this week.  My daughter Cathy Wotring, KC8DJJ, who's been participating in the net since April 27, 1996, has completed 850 check-ins.  Brad Caribine, KC8TYU, who's been participating in the net since October 19, 2002, has completed 450 check-ins. Both of these operators will be receiving their certificates.  And, Shaun Neidlinger, KB3CXQ, needs only one more check-in to make 100.  It will be nice when this coming weekend is over.  The Parkersburg Hamfest is coming up on Saturday, October 13th, and it is the last major event that I will be involved in until December 5th.  After this coming weekend I will have time to start printing up DAREN Check-In Certificates and get them sent out.  I want to thank all of those who have been waiting for their certificates.
