DAREN News, are articles and information about the Digital Amateur Radio "Emergency" Network of WV, which operates on 145.69 MHz.  Anyone having any information about DAREN, or Amateur Radio in general, and would like to share it with others, may send it to WA8LLM @ PKBGWV on 145.69 MHz, or to my E-Mail: wa8llm@yahoo.com.  A State Wide DAREN NET is operated every Saturday from 7:00 pm to 10:00 pm, and lately, before and after those hours.  The DAREN Net Announcement, showing the MAIN NCS, ALTERNATE NCS, NODEs accessible to both, and the previous week's check-ins, are posted by Thursday on most of the Main county DAREN PBBS'.  The DAREN News can also be found on the wc8ec.org website.

John Peterson, K8ZPR, got a lightening strike awhile back and lost a lot of his radio equipment, power supply, computer, and Packet TNC.  His son Joe, N8DSN, was up at his dad's house over the holiday weekend and worked on some of the equipment.  He got his dad another computer for Packet, but couldn't get the TNC to work.  He will be bringing the power supply and TNC back home with him, and I'm going to pick them up on Friday, to see if I can do any good with them.

Our communications group is getting ready to provide the communications for the High School State Cross Country foot races this coming Saturday here in Wood County.  The group spends almost all day at the races, providing the Safety Communications, and reporting of the runners on the track.

Terry Mills, KC8TUE, who is coordinating the Parkersburg/Wood County Hamfest, said the radio equipment that will be used as the Main Prizes at the Hamfest has been ordered and should be here soon.  He said there will be an HF transceiver, a 2 Meter Mobile, and a Handheld given away.  He has also been putting together the door prizes that will be drawn every five minutes.  Some of the door prizes will be a Dummy Load, a Computer-Radio interface, and maybe a generator, along with a lot of other electronic equipment.  Pass the word about the Hamfest, it will be held on October 13, at the Wood County 4-H Camp Grounds in Mineral Wells, just South of Parkersburg.  If you are coming by way of Interstate I-77, get off at Exit 170, and follow the signs for about five miles.  Check out the website:  www.wc8ec.org

There were 51 check-ins the State Wide DAREN Net this week.  Joe Peterson, N8DSN, needs only one more check-in to make 900, and John Western, KC8ODI, needs only one more check-in to make 400.  I've still been too busy getting ready for some outside activities to get started on the certificates that some of the net participates have been waiting for.  But, I will get started on them shortly.
