DAREN News, are articles and information about the Digital Amateur Radio "Emergency" Network of WV, which operates on 145.69 MHz.  Anyone having any information about DAREN, or Amateur Radio in general, and would like to share it with others, may send it to WA8LLM @ PKBGWV on 145.69 MHz, or to my E-Mail: wa8llm@yahoo.com.  A State Wide DAREN NET is operated every Saturday from 7:00 pm to 10:00 pm, and lately, before and after those hours.  The DAREN Net Announcement, showing the MAIN NCS, ALTERNATE NCS, NODEs accessible to both, and the previous week's check-ins, are posted by Thursday on most of the Main county DAREN PBBS'.  The DAREN News can also be found on the wc8ec.org website.

Well, I didn't make it to the Ritchie County tower site to work on the NODE/PBBS of RITCWV/HRVLWV.  I did talk to Matt Greathouse who said that he may have to make a trip to the site to work on some commercial radios that are there.  I told him that when he goes to let me know, and I'll see if I'm free, and will go with him.  Matt has some ideas about the Wood County Emergency Communications repeater that operates on 147.255 at the same tower site.  He wants to make some modifications that will make the repeater operate better.

The Ritchie County NODE/PBBS isn't the only NODE/PBBS that's out of service. While posting the DAREN News and State Wide DAREN Net Announcement last week, I wasn't able to connect to the Tucker County NODE/PBBS of TUCKWV/PRSNWV and the Putnam County NODE/PBBS of PUTNWV/HURCWV.  These may have been taken out of service by the wind storm of June 29th.  I still haven't heard anything about the Kanawha County NODE/PBBS of KANAWV/CHASWV.  I took an antenna down to Kanawha County to be used on the station, but it is still not in operation. From what I understand, there are some problems in Kanawha County, and the station may not be put back on the air.  I guess only time will tell.  It seems the DAREN system is falling apart.  At least I have a little control of some of the stations in this area, I just need to find the time to go get them repaired and placed back in operation.

That's all I have for this week.  If you have anything you would like to pass on to others, let me know so that I can put it here in the DAREN News.

There were only 46 check-ins to the State Wide DAREN Net this week.  Frank Hughes, WD8DEP, who has been participating in the net since November 20, 2004, has completed 350 check-ins and will be receiving his certificate.  I want to welcome back Peggy Hartley, KB8SEJ, who's been missing from the net since October 27, 2007.  With this check-in she has also completed 300 check-ins, and will be receiving her certificate.
