DAREN News, are articles and information about the Digital Amateur Radio "Emergency" Network of WV, which operates on 145.69 MHz.  Anyone having any information about DAREN, or Amateur Radio in general, and would like to share it with others, may send it to WA8LLM @ PKBGWV on 145.69 MHz, or to my E-Mail: wa8llm@yahoo.com.  A State Wide DAREN NET is operated every Saturday from 7:00 pm to 10:00 pm, and lately, before and after those hours.  The DAREN Net Announcement, showing the MAIN NCS, ALTERNATE NCS, NODEs accessible to both, and the previous week's check-ins, are posted by Thursday on most of the Main county DAREN PBBS'.  The DAREN News can also be found on the wc8ec.org website.

Jim Stephenson, WV8JS, who is the new ARRL District Emergency Coordinator for District 10, is still working on getting the Kanawha County NODE/PBBS of KANAWV/CHASWV, back in operation.  He's been talking to Mac McMillian, W8XF, about a new location for the station.  Jim said the Kanawha Amateur Radio Club will be holding their club meeting on Wednesday, and the discussion of installing the DAREN station at the same location as their voice repeater will be held.  Maybe within a few weeks the Kanawha County DAREN station will back on the air.  My plans are to meet with Jim at the Jackson County Hamfest on May 6th, and give him an antenna for the DAREN packet station.

I finally got all of the DAREN participation certificates printed up and ready to mail out for those who have been waiting.  I just need to make up copies of the DAREN Path Maps and the address labels.  With any luck I should be able to mail the certificates Friday.

I'm planning on making a trip to Pocahontas County May 11th, 12th, and 13th.  I will be helping provide communications for the Tyler County Search and Rescue team at a State Wide Search and Rescue exercise.  There is supposed to be several Search and Rescue teams at the exercise, but Tom Cooper, WV8TOM, the Director of Tyler Office of Emergency Services, ask the Wood County Emergency Communications group to help provide communications for his team.

The Athens County, OHIO, Amateur Radio Club will be holding their Hamfest this coming Sunday, April 29th, in Athens, Ohio.  The Jackson County Amateur Radio Club will be holding their Hamfest on Sunday, May 6th, at the Ripley Middle School in Ripley.

That's all I have for this week.  If you have anything that you would like to pass on to others, send it to me, and we'll put it in the DAREN News.

There were 52 check-ins to the State Wide DAREN Net this week.  Jerry Sturm, KC8SIG, needs only one more check-in to make 150.  Jerry is the new ARRL Emergency Coordinator (EC) for Tucker County.
